Anyone use olive oil as a 'facewash'?

I'm a new poster to this board, so not sure if this has been covered. After being inspired by the homemde beauty thread, I done some searches and came across an article that recommended using olive oil instead of soap/facewash.

My skin has always been oilly and congested no matter what I used so I was willing to try anything, especially as it wasn't going to cost me a fortune!

I am amazed at the difference it has made in just a few weeks, my skin is nowhere near as congested as it was, nor does it look like an oil slick by the end of the day like it used to and my pores aren't nearly as blocked. It did feel a bit messy at first - I think I used too much! -but afterwards my skin felt silky, not dry and tight or oilly. I now use the olive oil from the chemist which costs me 89p a bottle and lasts for weeks.

Anyone else had good results?

Thank you

Just wanted to say thanks for starting this thread, Ive suffered with bad cystic acne for 2 years and Im due to have a skin peel in august. I came across this thread and thought i'd give the olive oil a go as I had nothing to lose.... My skin is now perfect! I am truly gobsmacked at the results I have had in just two weeks. I do not have a single spot and all the fine lines under my eyes due to sun damage and generally dry old skin has gone. For the first time in years I can hold my head up high and smile.

THANK YOU!!!!

No, but if you want a nourishing cleanser full of oils as well as cleansers, try Oskia's Perfect Cleanser. Its very nourishing and also contains prebiotics, plus comes in 150mml pump and £38 so good value for the ingredients.

....

the benefits of olive oil is from head to toe..you can also use it as oil massage for thicker, fuller and bouncier hair thus preventing hair loss too... You can use olive oil on your face as massage oil...for exfoliation, just add a bit of iodized salt and gently rub on your face till you feel that the dead cells are fully gone...do this to your body and feet as well... its great one when you have cracked heels...super smooth and silky... try this out and let me know

Never thought of using olive oil as a facewash...

Well, you learn something every day... And the price is right too

Use olive oil

I have used olive oil on my face on and off for several years. After using a fortune on rather expensive facial cremes, I have found out that my olive oil does a better job for my skin than all these expensive, so-called anti-aging moisturisers.

Olive oil

Hi I've started using olive oil for my skin and hair and have had good results. I love it because it's natural and cheap. I got some of my idea's from this article.

Omg You Have to try it

Wow

Will definatley be giving this a go. Oily skin has been the bain of my life for years
Do u still tone and moisturise after tho or just leave your face alone? xx

Hi

I have a few greek girlfiends who have always recommended olive oil as an alternative for those of us with greasy skin - but I have never tried it - I use Clarins products but my face is very greasy and i am constantly powdering-up during the day which leaves my pores clogged ;( I will give it a go - what do you do? just massage in and rinse off? Isn't rinsing difficult?

Oil cleansing

Oil Cleansing surprisingly to most people would sound ridiculous. The reason being, is that we have been brainwashed by media advertising, to think we need so many different products to perform so many different functions.

The truth is that many cultures have been using this method for many many years and is a very effective method for all skin types. The fact is "like attracts like" in most cases in life, therefore, if your skin is oily, an oil will degrease the pores and yet also if you have dry skin, because of the nature of oil, it will not strip the skin, therefore being a balancing way of cleansing ALL skin types.

Most carrier oils can be used, however, people with nut allergy should be particularly aware of using Almond Oil or any nut based oils. The best oils to use are organic which will have had no contact with fertislisers or pesticides and cannot react with sensitive skin or carry any nasties into the blood stream.

The worst thing you can do in all skin types is to strip the skin of it's naturally protective acid mantle. Your body works holistically, therefore treat it with kindness and keep it in balance, by also having a healthy diet and plenty of water to flush the kidneys of toxins.

The oil cleansing method is an excellent method of removing stubborn makeup and deep pore cleansing at the same time. Don't be fooled into buying really expensive magic potions, Mother Nature really does know best!

I'm using olive oil as facial wash

I'm using olive oil as facial wash and it works really great for my skin.I just add a few drops of lemon juice to prevent acne.As the results,my face is now acne free n feels so soft.i also use olive oil for on my hair and hands.

Olive oil

It also works well on dry hair to give it a little moisture, helps with the frizz!!
Apply to ends of hair, wrap in a warm towel leave as long as possible then rinse out and notice the differene, no frizz and shiney hair!!

Re: "anyone use olive oil as a 'facewash'? "

I have to say WOW! I am a gay male who has been dealing with a nightmare of issues with my skin. I've tried thousands of dollars in products to have my skin look at least somewhat attractive and yet I always end up looking worse and have very painful areas where my breakouts occur.
I always knew that there had to be a product that would at least bring the sebum to the surface in order to get it out and clear up my skin. I happened by chance early on tonight to this site and happened to have a bottle of 100% virgin olive oil that I paid $4 for a couple of weeks ago for a dinner I had made.
After reading this site, I thought, why not?
I rinsed my face in plain warm water until it felt very damp and then put about 5 drops of olive oil between both hands and massaged it in giving myself a mini facial massage for about 5 minutes until it all soaked (absorbed) in. I then dabbed a linen cloth gently all over my face and it matted the oily/glossy look. I watched my face for 30 minutes and noticed sebum coming out of the pores on the tip of my nose and cheeks very slowly. So it seems that it pulls it out as mud does for bee stings.
After about an hour now I can already see a very nice glow to my skin and it does not feel very oily. At first rubbing my palm against my cheek it seemed as if it were oily, but when I looked at my hand there was no excess oil so it appeared that it was just that silky feeling that I've never had. I am truly amazed and am looking forward to what I will be dealing with in a weeks time.
I am sooooo thanksful this site was here tonight!!!
Brightest Blessings to all.

Olive oil

I am going to try Asda's Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil tonight as I am having problems with oily skin and nothing previously has worked, just not sure if it is safe to use any olive oil or should I just be using a certain kind. I also have sensitve skin? I would appreciate any comments.

Skin moisturiser

hi,
i have to be in the air-condition for very long hours, which is taking toll on my skin, since i am from India, and the outside climate is temperate.
can any one suggest any suitable skin nourisher for me.
thanks in advance.

Try this

Hey there,
My friend is from Sri Lanka and we both work in a windowless office with either air conditioning or heating on 8 hours a day and she swears by Clarins Santal Face treatment oil. She puts it on every morning and her skin always looks fab. She buys it from a internet company called island cosmetics and it is with 2-3 days of ordering.
Hope this works for you too.xx

I do

I have acne prone skin and I have tryed everthing and nothing worked. So I to was inspied by the homemade beauty thread. So even though I alway heard tha putting oil on acne prone face would make it worse I thought this is the only thing that I haved tryed, so I did. I love it it made a big difference. I dont have any brakes out any more my skin is glowing and soft and I love it.
