I'm a new poster to this board, so not sure if this has been covered. After being inspired by the homemde beauty thread, I done some searches and came across an article that recommended using olive oil instead of soap/facewash.

My skin has always been oilly and congested no matter what I used so I was willing to try anything, especially as it wasn't going to cost me a fortune!

I am amazed at the difference it has made in just a few weeks, my skin is nowhere near as congested as it was, nor does it look like an oil slick by the end of the day like it used to and my pores aren't nearly as blocked. It did feel a bit messy at first - I think I used too much! -but afterwards my skin felt silky, not dry and tight or oilly. I now use the olive oil from the chemist which costs me 89p a bottle and lasts for weeks.

Anyone else had good results?

"Oil cleansing"

Oil Cleansing surprisingly to most people would sound ridiculous. The reason being, is that we have been brainwashed by media advertising, to think we need so many different products to perform so many different functions.

The truth is that many cultures have been using this method for many many years and is a very effective method for all skin types. The fact is "like attracts like" in most cases in life, therefore, if your skin is oily, an oil will degrease the pores and yet also if you have dry skin, because of the nature of oil, it will not strip the skin, therefore being a balancing way of cleansing ALL skin types.

Most carrier oils can be used, however, people with nut allergy should be particularly aware of using Almond Oil or any nut based oils. The best oils to use are organic which will have had no contact with fertislisers or pesticides and cannot react with sensitive skin or carry any nasties into the blood stream.

The worst thing you can do in all skin types is to strip the skin of it's naturally protective acid mantle. Your body works holistically, therefore treat it with kindness and keep it in balance, by also having a healthy diet and plenty of water to flush the kidneys of toxins.

The oil cleansing method is an excellent method of removing stubborn makeup and deep pore cleansing at the same time. Don't be fooled into buying really expensive magic potions, Mother Nature really does know best!

I have to say WOW! I am a gay male who has been dealing with a nightmare of issues with my skin. I've tried thousands of dollars in products to have my skin look at least somewhat attractive and yet I always end up looking worse and have very painful areas where my breakouts occur.
I always knew that there had to be a product that would at least bring the sebum to the surface in order to get it out and clear up my skin. I happened by chance early on tonight to this site and happened to have a bottle of 100% virgin olive oil that I paid $4 for a couple of weeks ago for a dinner I had made.
After reading this site, I thought, why not?
I rinsed my face in plain warm water until it felt very damp and then put about 5 drops of olive oil between both hands and massaged it in giving myself a mini facial massage for about 5 minutes until it all soaked (absorbed) in. I then dabbed a linen cloth gently all over my face and it matted the oily/glossy look. I watched my face for 30 minutes and noticed sebum coming out of the pores on the tip of my nose and cheeks very slowly. So it seems that it pulls it out as mud does for bee stings.
After about an hour now I can already see a very nice glow to my skin and it does not feel very oily. At first rubbing my palm against my cheek it seemed as if it were oily, but when I looked at my hand there was no excess oil so it appeared that it was just that silky feeling that I've never had. I am truly amazed and am looking forward to what I will be dealing with in a weeks time.
I am sooooo thanksful this site was here tonight!!!
Brightest Blessings to all.

Hey there,
My friend is from Sri Lanka and we both work in a windowless office with either air conditioning or heating on 8 hours a day and she swears by Clarins Santal Face treatment oil. She puts it on every morning and her skin always looks fab. She buys it from a internet company called island cosmetics and it is with 2-3 days of ordering.
Hope this works for you too.xx

I have used olive oil on my face on and off for several years. After using a fortune on rather expensive facial cremes, I have found out that my olive oil does a better job for my skin than all these expensive, so-called anti-aging moisturisers. i think it is healthier for my body too. beeing nordic i have a rather sensitive skin, so Im very pleased with the olive oil. Why buy a facial with olive oil when you can use the natural thing...
"Use essential oils"
Posted by ninae27 3 July  at  05:14

What is even better is to blend some essential oils in the vegetable oil you're using. Preferably to a high concentration, it can be up to one third. This is the best beauty treatment you can get. Essential oils contain very small molecules that can penetrate deep into the skin and have numerous benefits for clarifying, moisturising and regenerating your skin. The floral oils, like Rose, Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Helichrysum, and Lavender are especially valuable for skin care.

"Works for me too"

Hello,

Im glad to find out that other ppl using olive oil experience the same as me. I actually wish I had found out about oils for acne skin a long time ago.

This came after long trial and error sessions. My favourite oils for my skin are:

- Olive oil for autumn/winter days
- Jojoba oil for removing make up and for spring/summer days
- Argan oil for night (it's more an oil for mature skin or when your skin starts to show fine line and dehydration)
- Burt's bees serum (vey good but very expensive)

I have completely given up any sort of branded moisturisers and my skin has never look and feel better.

Advantages of oils:

- Can be used to cleanse the skin or remove make up
- Very good to protect the skin from the cold, the wind, really feels like a comfy jumper over the skin
- Seems to rebalance the hydrolipidic layer (in fact I have read that Jojoba oil is very very close to the skin's hydrolipidic layer)
- Argan oil is wonderful for dry skin
- 'Natural', cheap in general (Jojoba and Argan are more expensive) and above all a bottle will last you ages!
- Very good base (believe it or not) as a base for your make up

However from my experience not all oils are alike. For instance, my skin reacts badly to almond and coconut oils and I have broken out everytime I used them or used a product containing them.

How I use my oils:

- The best way I have found to use them is to spray a mist of water all over my face then 'seal' the moisture by applying a few drops (for me 4 drops works wonder)that you spread between your palms and then massage onto the skin. After a few minutes, I pat my skin with the palms and the skin feels perfectly soft and not shiny or greasy at all
- To remove make up: Massage about 6/8 drops of oil and massage onto the skin, then take a cotton pad saturated with warm water and remove make up

I know it sounds weird to put oil on acne skin but in my opinion it's worth a try. The secret is really to put a little
and buy the best quality you can afford.
"Olive oil on skin"

hi, i have started using olive oil straight from the bottle from the kitchen, on my face at nite as a moisturizer. i have not used it as a face wash....i personally like a little suds on my face (i think overseas, suds may mean beer?, but i live in the U.S.A. and i am talking about cleansing suds (soap, creams, etc.)....in only the couple days i have been applying the olive oil on my face as a moisturizer, my skin does feel silky soft (esp. my cheeks). I also have oily skin, so i just wash my face in the morning and apply my nivea Q10....i am age 44, but have been told that i look in my early 30's. I figure olive oil has to be good on the skin....why not?
"Secret to having better skin with olive oil"
Posted by roma421 2 April  at  23:29

I've been using olive oil for my skin ever since I found that it's as healthy to use on the skin as it is to have in your salad dressings. I've always had good skin, but have always wanted *perfect* flawless skin. I've used hundreds of products on the market, but they were making my skin too dry or too oily, or they were too messy, or whatever. But then I read a Welloria article about olive oil (I'm a Welloria member) and it said that it's really high in Vitamins E and K. That's what first gave me the idea... I had bought a scrub from the market but it was too rough, not effective at all, so I added some olive oil and mixed in there really well... Awesome! Ever since then, I combine a dry scrub with olive oil and I get the best results!!! I'm always getting complemented on my skin... It works because you get the exfoliation, the moisture, and the vitamins If you're interested in reading the article I read, it's at http://www.Welloria.com/Olive_Oils/Olive_Oil_Benef-its_Extra_Virg in_p1.html - it has a free sign-up I think if you're not a member. I'd love to know if anyone else has figured out the dry scrub olive oil combination.
"Olive oil really does work!!!"

Hi All!

I've read about using olive oil on another discussion board ... . I was very sceptic about it first but after reading all those positive testimonials I thoug I had to give it a go. Being from Hungary I am quite dark with olive skin, and as most of you know olive sking comes with spots and greasy shine. I always had problems with my skin ever since I was 11. I am 23 now and I thought all those 'tenage' spots should be gone by this age. But in my case they didn't. I've tried everything - cheap and expensive creams, antibiotics... even Dianette pills subscribed by my GP(this only worked on my back as that used to be covered with spots too). So for all these years nothing has worked...and I have spent a lot of money for nothing. Most of the creams even made my skin worse (except Clinique which was ok but the results not good enough and it's very expensive)
Then I've accidently found a web page (mentioned above) where other girls are writing about their experiences with olive oil. I've tried it on the same night. First it seemed a bit greasy but next morning my skin was so soft, it's never been like this before. All my pores have tightened and my skin had a nice glow. On the second day I had a few more lump-like spots coming up, that really scared me but I've carried on using olive oil. After about only 5 days of using it ALL my spots have cleared up, and after just 2 weeks I can hardly see the scars (I had scars because I'm a picker..
I can't belive the difference this has made to my skin. I would recomend it to anyone. My three sisters have already startid using it after they saw the effect the olive oil had on my skin.
I did some research and found that the best one to use is organic, cold pressed exra virgin olive oil (around £2.50 for 500 mls in Tesco, but you can find it in most supermarkets)
Did you know that olive oil is the most natural preservative? They use it in most mediterran countries to preserve cheese and other food, this way they can last for long years. So I see using it on my skin as preserving it.. Also people from these countries have less wrinkles and they hardly develop skin cancer. They also consume a lot of olive oil.
Anyway, I hope you don't mind me going on about this. It's just I'm so happy with the way my skin looks and feels at the moment - after 12 years of suffering of terrible skin condition this is such a relief!
I hope to hear many more women experiencing the great benefits of olive oil, and its SO cheap!

Good luck for all of you!

Hi..I read all the info about olive oil you shared in the forum. It looks like olive oil has brought a welcome change in your skin. I never really had a skin care regime but i think its about time i started one. I am thinking of including olive oil as the main working force. Can you tell me, perhaps if you've tried, if its fine to dab a few drops of olive oil as moisturizer daily after the usual cleansing/toning etc. My skin type is normal and i prefer not to use moisturizing creams. I'd be grateful if you could gimme any tips on this. Thanx..
