Nothing to worry about, use a towel instead a tampon. Like my surgeon said he aint looking at that bit!!!.I was allowed to wear my own pants as long at they were cotton too.

"Period!"

One of the questions the Harley Medical Group asked me was "would I be menstrating during my op". I said probably yes. They don't like you to be in that situation and she has asked me if I could use the contraceptive pill to stop it coming over that time. So the local doctor has told me to take it just before I think I am due on and continue to take it 3 times a day for 10 days, which will take me past my op date. I think they just want to be sure to cover any unforseen risks etc....

I guess some costmetic companies take a different view on these things. If the surgeons ok with it, then hopefully he knows best.

Well never heard that before, unforseen risks associated with being on your period???

A lot of contraceptive pills raise the risk of dvt's slightly so normal contraceptives are often advised to stop. Norethisterone is a pill used to delay periods, is this the one you are/have used?

"Sorry girlies!!"
Posted by bids3 18 June  at  15:12

Yes the pill I've been given IS Norethisterone. Having not been on the pill for many years i didn't realise that this Norethisterone delays your period and is not the contraceptive pill as what I got stuck in my head. Sorry to cause a concern. There must be somekind of risk associated with menstrating and going into theatre i suppose, but I am no doctor I am only doing what they are asking me to do in their procedure manual.

"Thats a bit strange?!"
Posted by marti800 18 June  at  14:58

yeh that is a little wierd....id have thought that taking a cotraceptive pill short term would mess your hormones up. what was the name of the pill?
i wouldnt have thought that taking 3 contraceptive pills would have been advised.
whats this norethisterone pill...do you get it from the docs? xx
"Hi"
Posted by busycaz 18 June  at  15:10

Norethisterone is a pill you take 3 times a day. I have used it before (and my daughter has) when I have been due on, when on holiday. You start it 3 days before you are due on, take it for however long needed, then takes a few days when you stop to come on. It does mess your cycle up a bit, but period free holidays are worth it.

Your local gp can prescribe it. Not sure if this pill raises the chance of dvt or not....

xx
"Good to know!"
Posted by marti800 18 June  at  15:21

thats good to know...i had never heard of it before.
what are your periods like after using this pill?
and does it not pose any threat to the surgery or increase your risk of complications?
im going to google it now! xx
"Just to add!!"
Posted by bids3 18 June  at  15:30

My medical history could also be the reason why the Hareley Medical group have asked me to delay my period. I am also aged 43 so maybe that has something involved in it as well, they are just trying to make sure everything is covered for me. So please don't worry about this, ask directly to your cosmetic company and if they are fine about it then there is no need to worry marti800.

I came on the day before my op. Doesn't matter, just take pads as tampons might be difficult to use straight after. Lots here it has happened too.

"Thanks!"

I had my ba booked with Elyzea, a friend of mine who had hers done a week before, somewhere over here, Leeds i think, told me there was posters all over the walls at her clinic saying surgeons wont perform the op if you are on your period, this just worryed me even more as i knew i would be, she said its something to do with breast changes whilst your on, in my case, just b4 i come on, mine swell abit then towards the last day they go smaller and feel empty, (that was b4 my op), on the morning of my op i was on my last day, so my boobs felt saggy and horrible, i left it till the last minuite b4 telling my ps, Dr Neuprez, she said it wasnt a problem and it was up to me weather i left the tampon in or not, in the end i took it out. I made myself sick with worry over it, i dont take the pill, i thought i was gonna get all the way there and they wouldnt operate, but everything was fine, like the other girls have said, i think it depends on the surgeon but most seem to not mind.

All the best for your op, Sam xx
"Thanx!"
