HI everyone, i'm new in this site i'm italian and me and my husband are trying for a baby .. i am very stressed about toxoplasmosis as i have a cat @ home, i spoke to the doctor and she told me in England they don't test pregnant women for it, wich i find really strange as i know back in Italy they advise people to give the cat away during the pregnancy..i am very confused, can anyone help? should i keep cuddling my cat or is it dangerous in case i'm pregnant?
Thanks a lot Caterina xx

hi caterina,
i am 14 weeks + 2 days (still shocked) and i have a cat at home. i still cuddle my cat and have done since i found out. the only thing i do not do and was advised by my midwife is to clean out the litter tray as it is the cat feaces that can give you toxoplasmosis
hope this helps.

i am an animal care student + it is the faeces in which toxoplasmosis is carried. you can still cuddle him but always wash your hands afterwards. you are still safe to clean his litter tray but wear gloves and dont eat until your hands are clean. i am preg + have to clean out my cats tray cos i am single + on my own!
lots of luck love kaz + bump xx
