Hello all you lovely pregnant ladies..!
I am new to this site and was hoping to find someone out there who has taken the CVS test and could tell me their experience of it. I'm 44 yrs old and currently 12 +3 weeks pregnant with my 3rd. This pregnancy was a complete surprise out of the blue but I was thrilled when I got over the shock! Taking into account my age and the fact that I have a recurrent miscarriage history (5 to date), I knew it wasn't going to be plain sailing. Well I made it past all the blood counts, scan hurdles and last week had my combined nuchal test. My nuchal looked brilliant - only 1mm gap; but then when my blood results went with it (my HCG was also excellent - 3 MOM when it needs to be above 1, but my PAPP-A was only .25 - you need a 1 really) this gave me a mathematical Downs risk factor of 1:5 - pretty pants really. I now think I want to know for sure asap and don't think I can wait for an amnio, but was wondering what a CVS was like as I'm a bit of a scaredy cat.. can anyone enlighten me?

Hi,
I cannot answer your questions re the CVS test but when you when for the nuchal test could they tell you things there and then? I am assuming that they can do measurements on the screen?
When you had the blood tests how long did it take for the results to come back.
I am having these on 31st July
Any help / advice would be appreciated.

I had a cvs in jan 2006,my baby had Edwards Syndrome & as we wer xpectin it 2 b sumat as bad as that i didnt realy worry about the risk 2 the baby whereas in ur situation u may think about the risks more as ur baby could b perfectly healthy. As for the procedure itself well it wasnt very pleasant(the size of the needle is prety scary!).It did hurt but was over prety quick & ther was no pain after.Personally i was thankful that ther is such a test available.Good luck with woteva u decide.
