| Thread started by: | "Miscarriage worries, doc no help at all" Posted by gem851 3 September at 17:06
Hi wonder if anyone can give me some advice, I'm about 4 and a hlsf weeks and I started having a heavy brown discharge last night, which I know can be normal at this time so I just took it easy but today it's got heavier and I've been having quite severe cramping and lower back pain, I also feel like I'm no longer pregnant my huge appetite has disappeared as has my fatigue and breast pain.
Rang Doc to get things checked asap and was told that all I could do was "see how it goes" and was told to put another test in at the end of the week, I told him then that the hormone which shows you are pregnant remains in your body for up to 2 weeks after a miscarriage, which made him stammer... Ridiculous I seemed to know than he did just by reading up on internet, anyway I asked if I could be referred to Assessment Clinic, he said that would be pointless and just to wait it out.
What should I do? I'm ill with worry, not knowing is the worst part and he has just made me feel worse, would the clinic find me ridiculous if I went anyway?
Thanks

So I rang the hospital, I got through to a rather abrupt woman who basically said I couldn't just refer myself and that either my GP or Midwife would need to refer me, I explained that my GP was no help at all but no she was just rather abrupt and said that was just the way it was, so I'm no further on, I've taken some time off work to rest up, still got the nausea but that's about it, on reading up myself I believe I've had a missed miscarriage, so if like the Doc says I have to put another test in next week it could still be positive... It's strange how you just know you're pregnant as I did and again I know I'm now not.
Thanks for the messages xx

I'm so sorry they were so unhelpful, can't understand why it doesn't work the same everywhere. Know the last thing you need right now is a fight but i would keep harassing your GP for a referral. You don't deserve to be left hanging like this, it isn't fair and docs shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. If there's another doc at your practise try asking for a second opinion, I saw 2 different docs at my practise 3 days apart with my last m'c. First one said wait and see but the second got straight on the phone to EPAU and got me the first available appointment, it really does just seem to depend on the doctor. Whoever you see they need to know what this is doing to you. Tell them the worry is making you ill and don't be afraid to give them both barrels. I never want to make a fuss in these situations but sometimes you have to make them realise what they're putting you thru by making you wait. You pay your taxes like everyone else so why shouldn't you get the same treatment? Sorry to go on but it makes me so angry the way m/c is treated (or not) by doctors.
Think we know our own bodies better than anyone but so hope you're wrong about your pregnancy. Will be thinking of you, let us know how things go.

I agree with Shell - Contact the hospital - I experienced the same attitude from my GP and so I rang the hospital and they just told me to come in and scanned me.
Hope everything goes ok for you.
Big hugs

doctors don't seem to realise how agonising it is to have to wait. Some EPAU's are only run in the mornings tho so might be better to ring between 9am and 12pm. Am keeping everything crossed that everything will be ok for you, best of luck,

You said you're ill with worry and yet your doc still hasn't been any help. Typical! If you don't get "proper" medical advice from someone soon you're just gonna be even more anxious. And being in the dark about this is not going to make you get any better.
Please speak to someone!
Good luck, Claire x
