"Is this normal?"
Posted by tillybob 6 December  at  13:22

I had a miscarriage on 25/11/07 at 6 weeks, it was my first pregnancy. I was given 2 early pregnancy scans as I had some light spotting, 1st one I was told everything looked 'normal' and a few hours before my second scan (a week later) I started bleeding heavily and having cramping, I was then informed at the scan that my pregnancy had gone and was sent home after a 5 min chat with the doctor. I haven't had any D+C or follow up appointments with the doctor. My bleeding has stopped now (after 5 days)does anyone think I need to see a doctor at all? or is this normal procedure?

Thanks
Nat x

its cuz it was early and it would have been small after i think 8 or 10 weeks the have to scan and offer a dnc. its prob cuz they think you a chemical pregnancy so its a slightly heavier peoiod i had one in august and got caught 5 days after and im now 16 weeks and shattered.

I had a MC 3 weeks ago at 6wks!! I had no scans but had heavy bleeding a cramps (knew what was happening) Doc said to let nature take its course so have a very bad period and tested after and said neg so knew that was it. Im sorry for your loss its so upsetting. but i had no medication or follow ups, she said to call back if i had severe pain or bleeding hadnt stopped after 2weeks. apart from that just had to get on with it. Hope that helps.

I had a m/c only a day after you. I was almost 11 weeks and had some bleeding a few days before and a scan that showed no hearbeat so losing it was inevitable. Luckily it was quick, I had the scan on Sunday night and the m/c on the Monday. Lots of blood and awful cramps for most of the afternoon and early eve I passed it in the toilet. Unfortunately we were travelling back from Cornwall to Manchester so I didn't go to hospital, it was gonna happen anyway! I saw my GP on the Tuesday, had a scan on the Thursday where I was told it was complete and everything was back to normal and that's kind of it! I think cos you had a scan they could see that it had all gone so you don't need a D&C. My friend had follow up bloods taken after her m/c (also didn't need D&C and she lost at 6 weeks) to check her hormone levels but I haven't been asked to do that. I think it is good that you've stopped bleeding, I still am and it's a bit gross, just wondering whether I need to go back in case somethings wrong. I think that as it is unfortunately so common and there's no medical intervention they just leave you to it, but it feels strange. It's such an awful thing you feel like they should be doing more but our bodies know what they need to do. Take care hon, Rach x

thanks for the reply sorry to hear of your loss, its hard to ask family and friends those sorts of things! Me and my partner are just going to carry on and see if I pregnant again but I already know I'm going to be so paranoid at any little pain or anything! I just hope I can put it behind me and enjoy being pregnant if it happens again. nat x

You must have passed it when the heavy bleeding was going on b4 the scan, which is why they didnt give you a d&c. Nothing left to take out. They knew where the pregnancy was so knew it wasnt a etopic pregnancy. I had the same type of mc as you and there wasnt much they told me eaither just to try again and if there was going to be another pregnancy then there was the same chance of a mc then for folk who didnt have mc. This is where i give you hope,i am now 16+4 weeks pregnant and everything is ok, so it can happen to me then it can happen to you. my heavy bleeding stopped after a day and was spotting for 3 so its nothing to worry about.
PM me anytime you want
Lis
