"Abdominal pain...advice please"

Hi,

I'm just over 8 weeks pregnant and on Friday afternoon I had a really bad tummy ache, not at all like period pains. Luckily I'd just got home from work so I rested and was able to go out later that evening. There was no bleeding but the pain was very unusual and for a little while I was doubled over.

It almost feels as though I've done too many sit ups and strained my muscles. I felt a lot better the next day but the strained feeling was still there. I called nhs direct and they asked lots of questions but didn't really have any answers?

Could this have been a miscarriage? Has anyone had this? Should I be worried?

can't really offer any explanation for your pain but have had 3 m/c's and none of them were anything like you describe. All mine started with lower backache, sort of dull and nagging like period pain and I started bleeding within a day or so of first noticing the pain. I'm pregnant again now (nearly 5 weeks) and am noticing lots of twinges and muscle strain type pains which I'm pretty sure from what others have said is just my muscles and ligaments stretching and softening ready for bubs growing. Haven't had anything sharp enough to double me over but suppose everyone is different and it could just be this that's causing your pain. I would probably pop and see your GP if I was you, just to be on the safe side but the fact that you're not bleeding is a really good sign so try not to panic too much. If the pain gets that bad again before you can get to see GP or you do start to bleed I'd pop down to A & E though, you can never be too careful and at least they have the facilities to scan you and hopefully put your mind at rest. I'll be keeping everything crossed that things turn out ok for you, message anytime if there's anything I can do.

Lotsa love,
Clare xxx
