"Infection, metronidazole tablets"
Posted by miric25 27 March  at  16:31

Hiya All,
went to see my gp today & she has done everything my hospital has refused to do (apart from scan me) and taken blood, urine & swab samples to be tested but she has also prescribed METRONIDAZOLE tablets for an infection. Im allergic to penicillin (sp?) so the choice of tablets she can offer me is limited but shes said these are known to commonly make people feel ill. has anyone else ever had these tablets or infections of the uterus in general?

Im going to put a formal complaint in about my hospital & the way ive been treated over the last 3 and a half weeks, im sure if i'd been seen earlier this infection could have been avoided or at least found & treated earlier. My A&E department are going to get a mention aswell.

Any advice anyone can offer me about the tablets or their account of an infection would be appreciated.
Many Thanks

Hellen xXx

"Metronidazole tablets"

Hiya! I am new to this so hello. I noticed that you are taking the metronidazole tablets. Well my story is this - about January i had an itch and my discharge was every day, white or yellow. I had missed my period (because of my age) Oct to January, spotting in January and an itch and this discharge! February came a heavy period and March too and the discharge continued. Went to the docs because the itching was driving me mad she took some swabs which came back negative (I am not the best patient with this and knew she hadnt fully gotten what she wanted) but said there was a build up of puss there. Anyway, went back because i had a slight discomfort in the abdomen. Eventually i went back again last week and had another internal (a good one she said) and she gave me amoxil and metronidazole 400mg to take for seven days. I am waiting to see the gyni on 2 May too. The tablets seem to just give me some constipation for some reason but i will perservere with this because i think the itchiness is subsiding slowly. I am disgusted at the way you have been treat and dont blame you for complaining. I would too. I am still worried about going to see the gyni and the results next week but hope that it is just a slight infection. Anyone reading this who has had similar symptoms i would love to hear from you. Do take care.

I don't know anything about the tablets but just wanted to say I think you are bang on making a complaint about your hospital, I think it's awful how you were treated and all the hours you were just left sitting in places with no-one coming to even see you.

I don't mean to sound dramatic but plenty of people couldn't have coped with what you did and it's their sheer luck you are a trooper, they should have given far more thought to the torment and risks to your mental health aswell as physical health that they were dicing with.

Hope you're OK hun,
Love N xxxx

i had an infection after m/c last nov despite also having a scan, apparently they must've missed a small amount of tissue. I too had metronidazole and another milder antibiotic at the same time. I have to say i did have some unpleasant symptoms but also noticed the infection cleared up quite quickly so stuck with them. I had a constant furry taste in my mouth, touch of insomnia and tmi but it made me move my bowels about 6 times a day altho it wasn't diarrhoea...sorry! After i'd finished the course tho all the side effects quickly disppeared.

I think you're right to put a claim, they've made a horrible experience even worse.

Take care hon,

Hey hun id complain thats atrocious what they did to you I was wondering about infection myself as you know i had a d and c over 2 weeks ago now bleeding stopped after like a week was coming and going now finally gone but these past few days ive been feeling rough and now theres like an increase in discharge so sorry TMI and my doctor didnt even see me after hed done the d and c had given pills to my mother in law and i went. I read that they are spose to see you again to check cervix has closed or uterus has gone down or something but ive had no after care and since Ive felt ok i havent bothered but now im concerned.Been having some small twinges in my stomach like feels like in my fallopian tube and ive only got one so im precious about it! I was given amovin which was just a brand name when I looked it up was an antibiotic and something else incase of infection as i didnt actually have one at the time but maybe was a precaution. Ive read other places signs of infection are like a bad odour and a fever, havent had that yet. I hope everything works out for you i think its terrible when they play around with peoples well being because of cost it makes me so angry. I cant believe they left you for 3 weeks i mean thats ludicrous I hope you get somewhere with your complaint and it goes well good luck. Take care

HUnny these are the same pills that i was put on for my infection in dec07 for my m/c too.

I too am allergic to penicillin too. They made me feel very sick but that pasted after a couple of days too. I was left too for 2 weeks. I was told that to d&c me would cost the nhs £3000 so it was cheaper to give out the pills to make me feel better . They also said that they try not to do the d&c now at the hospital at cost to much and they can get round it.

I was left on the pills for 2 weeks and told that if it was still there after then i would get another set off pills before they would do the d&c. Its a joke to be treated like this way.I think that you are very right in making that complaint to the hospital. Good one you.

Hope that you are feeling a little better hunny. Take care Linzi xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxx
