Hi,
This morning i went for a repeat scan at my local Early Pregnancy unit as my previous scan about 2 weeks ago showed no heartbeat. The doctor told me there has been no change & diagnosed a missed miscarriage. I'm obviously gutted as I had another miscarriage back in January that was a blighted ovum. I couldn't believe my luck when I fell pregnant again so quickly (it had previously taken 7 months to conceive). I can't believe I'm going through it all again, the irony is my GP sent me for any early scan to reassure me!
What I wanted to know was, does anyone know how long it takes for a missed miscarriage to expel itself naturally? They have said my 2 options are a d&c or to wait. I went for the natural option last time as the bleeding was already well under way. I want to do the same this time as I don't lke the sound of a d&c but obviously don't want to be waiting weeks. I am currently 9 weeks 3 days. I missed carried naturally last time at about 10w 4days, anyone know if it's likely i'll do the same this time?

Hi, sorry to hear your sad news. I miscarried at 11 weeks and had a D&C performed 4 weeks ago. This was my first miscarriage and I admit I was a bit naive as to what would or should happen. In the end I decided to have the D&C as I felt it would help speed up my healing process (more mentally than physical) and I didn't know what to expect if I let it go naturally. I was given a tablet to soften my cervix and then had a general aneasthetic so was knocked out for the whole thing. The only pain I had was when I came round and had fairly bad period pain but nothing I couldn't cope with. They give you painkillers anyway. I just had a little spotting for a couple of days afterwards and to be honest, physically, I am fine. God forbid, it happens again, but I would definitely opt for the D&C again. From reading this and other websites about how long a natural miscarriage can take, it sometimes seems likes weeks and there can be quite a bit of pain (although these may be isolated 'horror' stories I have read. I hope this helps ease your worries about the D&C even a wee bit and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your little angels. Take care
