Hi,

I am new to the board. I was wondering if anyone can give me any info about hcg levels after miscarriage. I had a natural mc at 12 weeks, and after the scan they said there is no need for D&C. They checked my HCG levels and they were about 8000. They told me to go back after 48 hours and the levels have droped to 2500. Then I went back after a week and they were down to 235. They said that there is no need to go back as the levels are dropping in a steady rate. That was 10 days ago. Today I took a pregnancy test to c if they were back to negative but it still came up positive. I am starting to worry about any left over tissue. Has anyone had a similar experience?

they told me at my scan that there was some leftover tissue but not enough to warrant a D&C and they said it should sort itself out, good old NHS! They never bothered checking my HCG levels and I wasn't as clued up then as I am now (thanks to bitter experience unfortunately) so when I tested about 6 weeks after the m/c and got a positive I thought I'd fallen pregnant again straight away. My period started a day or two later and I was gutted to find out it was old hormone floating around because of the leftover tissue. It did sort itself out without me getting an infection but it took 2 quite heavy periods after the m/c til things were back to some kind of normality physically. Keep an eye out for any unpleasant odour (sorry TMI) or discharge between periods and get it checked out straight away if you do notice anything as it might be an infection developing. Other than that there's not much you can do except wait for things to settle. I know quite a few girls on here have carried on testing at regular intervals til they get a negative result so they know what's happening, might be useful for you especially if you're thinking of trying again straight away cos it saves you the trauma of getting your hopes up like I did. So sorry you're going through this hun, know how awful it is and hope I haven't sounded unsympathetic cos believe me I'm not, just trying to give you what info I've managed to pick up along the way. Take care of yourself and message anytime if I can answer any questions or you need a chat.

Lotsa love,
Clare xxx

Thanx a lot for the info. I am a bit scared and shocked with the mc as it was my first pregnancy. I would like to start trying straight away as I have pcos and it did take about 8 months the first time to conceive( which was quite lucky, the next time it might take even longer). The other worry that I have is that I have read that pcos icreases the chances of mc in the first trimester. However nobody told me until it happend and I did a bit of recearch or my own. I have been trying to convince the gp to refer me to an endocrinologist but its not working...anyway it does help to talk to people that had the same experience as you. I hope the hcg levels will go back to normal in the next week or so. I will take another test in the next couple of days and I will go to the doctor if it is still positive.

lol to all
