"Confused over dating scan/gestation"

I've decided to TTC after unfortunately having a second m/c in July. If I manage to get pregnant again, I want scans at 8 and 11 weeks if possible as my other m/c's were at 10 weeks and 7 weeks.

I'm confused as to how scans are dated though. Do they go by last period or actual gestation once the embryo has implanted in the womb? I want my baby to be over 8 weeks at my scan you see so I know everything is ok at that point and then hopefully have another at 11 weeks when I'm passed the 10 week mark. If I know how it's dated I can work out the latest possible time I could have conceived, add 6 days as this is how long the fertilised agg takes to implant and then count 8 weeks to try and get my first scan then.

Also, has anyone had early scans following two recurrent m/c's and do the hospital monitor you more closely? I live in the Manchester area and think it may vary depending on area.

Most hospitals are reluctant to give early scans just for reassurance,or should I say alot of doctors are!

I have had three miscarriages in the last year amd am now just 6 weeks pregnant again. I will be able to get a scan some time either next week or the week after but this is only as I have been under the gynae department as they were trying to investiagte as to why we have lost them.

They will not monitor me any more closely if the pregnancy is running normally. As they have said there is little they can do if you are going to lose.As hard as it is it is very true, for the first 24 weeks you are very much in the lap of the God's.

I hope you are successful and maintain the next pregnancy. I know how worrying and draining the whole situation can be.

After my first m/c the doctor said I could have a scan at 8 weeks for my next p/g to put my mind at rest.

after mine in feb they said id get an early scan next time, anyway i didnt get offered one until i started spotting at 6 weeks (been today for it) so unless you spot or bleed they might not give you one as they said it uses up too much energy (on the machine) which i thought was a bit silly.
