I found out this morning that i was pregnant and it scared me so much. Of course i told my boyfriend straight away and i already know what i want to do. i am a student and i'm finishing off my a levels so right now is not the right time to have a baby.
i have booked an appointment with the hospital for 2 weeks time and i would say i am already about 4 weeks. however, i need advice on the different methods of abortion and which ones are best? i kind of want this all over as quickly as possible as i am still in school and i am out of the country in a months time!! does anyone know how quickly i can get one and how easy is it to get it on the NHS?
please reply soon
i'm scared to death

I know exactly what you're going through. A month ago I found I was pregnant right in the middle of my first year uni exams and like you I wasn't ready for a baby.

There are 2 methods Medical abortion and surgical.

Medical one you take pills for it and it induces a miscarriage. You go one day take a pill (or maybe more than 1 i'm not really sure) then about 48 hours later you go to hospital and take some more. This time you have to stay in hospital for the day and pass the pregnancy. After you've done this you can go home but you will bleed heavy for a while, but it depends on the person how long for and how painful it is. I've read that it is like really bad period pains. Then 3 weeks later you go back for a check up.

Surgical one well I think you can probably guess what this entails but basically they gently suck the fetus out while you are asleep. It depends on the hospital and you whether you have to go back for a check up.

I actually had the surgical abortion today and I can honestly say it was fine. I'm about to start a topic about my experience so you can read that.

But I was initially meant to have the medical as I was 5 weeks when I realised I was pregnant. They won't do a surgical before 7 weeks as the fetus is too small and the doctor might miss it. It's only because of problems on my hospital ward that I had the surgical.

No-one can really say what's best for you as my original method wasn't my choice it was up to the hospital, but I am glad I had the surgical over the medical.
After Friday I won't be in the country either which is why the surgical was best for me as I don't have to go for a follow up and theres not as much bleeding.

But make sure this is what you really want. I was 100% sure of my decision and I still feel fine and I'm not slipping into a lifetime of depression like some pro-lifers will have you believe all woman go through. The most stressful part was waiting for it to happen and I'm glad I can move on.

Sorry look how much I've gone on. PM me if theres anything you want to know/ask.

sorry I've re-read what I said and didn't answer everything.

It's very easy to get it on the NHS - that's who I got mine done by and the nurses are lovely and not judgemental at all.

It really depends on the area you live to how long it will take. I live in Liverpool so a pretty big city and I could have had it a week after my first consultation. The hospital I was meant to have it done in only did it every 2 weeks.

xx
