"Any advice on pill or surgical?"

I'm 20 and think I'm pregnant. I'm taking a test tomorrow, but getting ready for a positive result. My partner and I already discussed this and decided to have an abortion. I'm not sure whether to take the pill or have surgery - I don't want to mess with my body surgically because I have phobias about it, but the pill only works 95% of the time. Has anyone done either one and is willing to discuss the pros and cons?

Hi, I had an abortion a couple of years ago using the pill version.

I'm not sure where you heard the pill only works 95% of the time, but in fact it is pretty much always effective. They observe you in hospital or at a centre until you start to bleed and either keep you in to check everything comes out or send you home and you come back in a week to make sure it has come out.

I was kept in hospital and when you pass the foetus if you are far along (I was 14 weeks as I was made to wait a long time for my abortion on the NHS) you can see what comes out so it can be quite unpleasant. I suppose the operation stops you seeing anything, but I am phobic about surgery and wouldn't even consider it at the time! But you don't have to look, I personally chose to because I wanted to make sure the whole nightmare was over, but nurses will just take it all away in a bedpan if you want.

Personally I think the tablet is much better as it stops you from having such a high risk of infection, perforation etc.

Best of luck xxx
