Breast augmentation on the nhs

hi everyone, i have recently been to see my gp about the saggyness of my boobs, even writing this on here is very brave for me. i am 18 and have always had big boobs since i started puberty (D and above) i have always been terribly self conscious about the appearance of my breasts and have never let anyone see them since i before puberty (not even my mum or sister). i have always thought that i would have to change them some way or another i just didnt know what to do. i recently plucked up the courage to talk to my mum about going to see a gp about them. she told me that she had always known how unhappy i was because of them. they have stopped me getting in any form of relationship. i arranged an appointment with my gp. i burst into tears and explained how unhappy i am about them, he decided not to look and to refer me to a breast specialist to examine me and decide. i saw my gp a week ago and have already received a letter for my appointment with the surgeon in another week, which was surprisingly quick.

i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect from this examination by the specialist and whether i have already been accepted for the surgery, or whether it is up to the surgeon to decide next week?

thankyou for any replies.

Breast uplift on nhs

OMG you are so sooo lucky, i have been desperately been wanting a breast uplift since having two children they have gone south im 22 and have no self esteem or confidence. i went to my gp about having breast surgery on the nhs and she said there was no chance i am so jelous i have been prescribed anti depressants have been taking them for six months but my gp still think it post natal depression altough i dont feel the same my son is 18 months old lol. i have not changed my mind one bit about having breast surgery and am now looking at going privately how am i going to pay i ahve no idea lol rob a bank lol. i even explained to my gp if given the option to have the completly removed or keeping them the way there are and saying i would much rather have them completly removed and i would feel better didn't change her mind.
I have a consultation by an adviser nurse dont know whether it will be the same but i expect they will aski you what you would like them to look like and just explain the procedure. Fingers crossed for you that you have been accepted for the surgery.
If you dont mind me asking where abouts do you live?

Hi hun,

I also went via my g.p after having 2 children and then also giving birth again as a surrogate for my friend. I then lost 6 stone going from a size 20 to a size 8. Before putting all that weight on I was a size 36 d before going right up to a 38e/f.
After the weightloss I have been left with very droopy uneven boobs with excess skin. I went to my g.p and he had a passing glance before referring me. At the consultation I had to wear an open gown so he could look and measure the droopyness of my boobs. He said that surgery would certainly help me . I then had to go back to me g.p and ask him to apply for funding to the pct for the procedure and also see a shrink to determine that I was of sound mind and able to deal with the surgery.

It took me 8 months to finally get it funded, as the first two times it was turned down. I ad to get my g.p to appeal and then also write a long detailed letter on why I met the criteria (if you message me I can forward the criteria and copy of my letter so you know what I am talking about). I had my appointment back with the consultant last thursday and I am now on the wait list for surgery (approx 3 months or so).

You have to be patient but if you persist and your g.p is supportive then you will be fine. I am having to have an uplift and an implant to correct my breasts.
I hope that your first appointment goes well for you.

Breast uplift on nhs

hi sarah,
my gp has said there is no chance the nhs would do my surgery. I am a very droopy 34 c/d after two children and going frm a b to an f. do you think i should continue with my gp, did your gp first say they wouldn't do or that it was a possibility. i am very desperate to have them done, your very brave posting a picture of them i can just about bare looking at them when i get dressed let alone anyone else see them xx

Hi kirstie,

Your g.p has no right to refuse you seeing a consultant. Its Your legal right to be reffered to a plastic surgeon, and she cannot refuse this at all. Go back again and explain that you know your rights and that you will report her for refusing you to see a specialist. If all else fails, change g.p's or see another at your pratice.
I too have to run past the mirror as I can't bear to look at my breast. I took a picture to remember what they look like and to show other girls on here that they are not alone. (the picture revolts me).

After I saw the plastic surgeon, I had to go back and get mty g.p to apply for funding from the PCT. They cannot refuse this if the plastic surgeon has requested it. Try again hun, it takes a while, but you have to be patient and keep trying.
keep in touch and let me know how you get on.

sarahxx
