Blonde to brunette

Hi,

I recently had my hair dyed blonde and it really washes me out (it's also slightly ginger in places!) I am naturally a mousy brown colour but have always had it a really light brown with caramel colour highlights. I really cant afford to pay £80 to get it done proffessionally again and so was thinking of buying a really really light brown colour from the supermarket to do it myself. How do I get an even all over colour as my roots are already 2 inches long and are quite a lot darker than the blonde. Also, may sound like a silly question but will it go green?!

Blonde to brunette!

Don't listen to anyone who tells you that your hair will go green if you dye it brown yourself.

I had dyed blonde hair and then I wanted my natural colour back and my hairdresser said it will go green..
Anyway I took the risk and it hasnt gone green!!
Im alot happier with it being brown now

Nooo

Hi Hannah,

Dont just put a flat brown straight on or it will go green, you wont be able to go to the light brown you want straight away if you do it yourself as a hairdresser would use various different strengths of peroxide to correct your hair depending on how light/ginger your hair is and how dark your roots are but you will be able to get it all one colour and back to your natural brown.
Put a light brown mahogany on your hair where the base brown colour is as close to your natural colour as you can get, this will put the red tones back into your blonde hair which let it go brown with no green.
If its a bit to red tones are then to much for you, you can then put a flat brown on it safely to get nearer the colour you want. You dont need a traffick stopping red brown to do it just a light brown mahogany will be enough let me know how you get on.

Thanks

Nooo!

Hi Hannah,

Do not just put this brown straight on your hair, if you do there is an almost certainty it will go green! If you really cant afford to get it done professionally (which to be honest is always the best thing to do when you need a colour correction) i would advise to buy a slightly reddish brown (and i mean slighly red so you dont end up like a traffic light) like a light brown mahogany colour on it, try and get base brown colour as close to your natural brown as you can, i know you said you want it lighter than your roots but you cant achieve that on your own when colour correcting, you will have to go back to your natural brown then once your there wait a few weeks then see about lightning it all together, without looking at your hair its very difficult to fully advise but this is what i would do as you need to put the red tones back in your blonde hair to make it go brown (this stops the green tinge) after that if its a bit to red for your liking, You can then put a flat brown on it if you need to, safely. It does mean a lot of messing about and prob a bit of colour overload but short of going to a professional i think its your only option and buying 2 colours from a shop would be cheaper. To achieve the light brown you wanted, a hairdresser would use 2 maybe even 3 different colours and peroxide strengths on your hair to lighten and darken certain areas depending on how dark your natural brown is and how light/ginger the rest of your hair us. i would strongly advise against trying this yourself or you could end up in a real mess.
Hope this helps, please let me know how you get on

Thanks

Heeelllpp me!

ok hi everyone..i have a problem
i am very inexpierienced in this whole hair dying world
i had never dyed my hair untill recently
i probably shouldnt have because i had light blonde naturally highlighted hair, that was like pretty, but i had it my whole life and wanted to mix it up
so i bought herbal essence color me vibrant and i dyed my hair a chocolate to medium brown color
i really like it
but i dont want to be stuck dying my hair for the rest of my life, and plus i liked it how it was, and when this brown starts growing out i want to just go back to my natural blonde. I was under the impressiion that i could just strip it and it would be back to how it was, but someone else told me that wasnt the case..
does anyone know what ill have to do to get back to my old hair>!...preferably a cheep way..? or will i be stuck stripping then dying it back blonde till my natural grows in?
