Help - full ball attire = ?

Question : what attire may i wear for attending a formal Ball ???
For my job, I am invited to the First release of a New Great 'Viennese' Ball in a country of Central Europa (new ECC), next spring. It will take place in an old palace.I am aware that I must indeed wear some evening dress, but what exactly is the recommanded attire to be "in" as a guest of honour to this affair? The english (and german and local language written) program tells : The 1st xxx Ball is a very formal affair, white tie Ladies may wear a full ball attire. What is this "FULL ball attire" required ??? thanks to everyone ! Lauriane 29y old woman.

Wow!

Your so lucky! I'd love to dress up!

Thanks - but what's your advice ?

What I must wear - I suppose there is a(non written) dress code there and some do/dont about the atire ! Lauriane

How glam!

Something long and sweeping probably! I don't think it matters where ti's from or how much you spend, more theys tyle of the dress...do you know anyone else who's going, what are they wearing?

Look at this for rather archaic but nevertheless useful ball-dressing advice:

"When selecting a color, a lady must consider her figure and her complexion. If slender and sylph-like, white or very light colors are generally suitable; but if inclined to embonpoint, they should be avoided, as they have the reputation of apparently adding bulk to the wearer.

Pale colors, such as pink, salmon, light blue, maize, apple green and white are most in vogue among blondes, as being thought to harmonize with their complexions. Brilliant colors are more generally selected by brunettes.

The material of the dress should be of the lightest--the more gossamer-like the better. A rich satin slip should always have either crepe or net over it; and it is the generally received opinion, that the least trimming the dress has the better, but again, individual taste may permit a deviation from the general rule."

About formal ball attire -

Thanks for these advices, but does somebody else have any suggestion ?I am so scared ! Lauriane
