Same sex marriages

What does everyone think about the new law which comes into force soon in the UK and will allow couples of the same sex to undergo a civil ceremony which will give them many of the rights and responsibilities of married couples? I don't have any views either way but am just intrigued to know what others think about it?

I don't see any harm in it, other countries have had this sort of thing for years and I don't see why homosexuals shouldn't be able to make their unions official in the same way we can.

France has the PACS civil union for gay or straight people and it's quite popular for all types of relationship, plenty of older divorced people do it if they don't fancy re-marrying.
