Hurricane katrina

What a dreadful catastrophe.
Poor people of New Orleans.
Is there any truth in the reports that Bush diverte money from flood and hurricane warning systems to the Iraq war, or is that just the media?

Glad to see at least someone is concerned for us!

Hi,

You know we can really do without the criticism of our government right now. There is hundreds of politicians in our government just as responsible for everything as our president is. It's very easy to blame the person at the top. Who knows where funds went to? But funding is approved by the congress and the senate, not just the president. Right now our prayers and focus are upon these poor people in New Orleans who were unable to get out of the city because they had no transportation. It's a very sad and tragic week here. Where is the support of the other nations when we are always right there to help everyone else in devastating times?

Hurricane rita/katrina

Perhaps Cherished will not be so cloying in her defence of George Bush when she discovers that he has already - two days before the hurricane strikes land - approved Texas as a disaster area. Does George know something we don't? How wonderful that he can predict where hurricanes will make landfall, whereas the weather service cannot be so specific. Louisiana, Mississippi & Alabama would have liked that information.

Perish the thought but could this just be another way of funneling funds to the his Texan buddies?

We can only hope that 'Rita' will not be as bad as Katrina, a lame hope, I fear for the people in its path, however, I suspect that GWB will not be among them, leading from the front.

P.S. If I were an American taxpayer I would sure as hell want to know 'where the funds went to'.

This is an american who does want to know where the funds go

I am not necessarily a George Bush supporter, believe me, he is not my favorite president, and I also have questioned quite a bit. It's horrible how the situation was handled in Louisianna, & I agree that it was little too late, but the fault lies in many...particularly the local Louisianna government, such as the governor & the mayor of Louisianna It was their responsibility first. Well, also Katrina was not being predicted as a big hurricane. It wasn't until it held off the coast for a long time, and unexpectantly gained strength that it became so devastating. Also there were many people who refused to leave even though they were told to. In short, the meteorologists can predict fairly accurately where the hurricanes are going to come ashore...the knew Katrina was going to hit Louisianna/Mississippi, but it wasn't a huge hurricane until just before it hit (holding back, gaining strength), also hmmmm, I've been watching the news for a week prior to hurricane Rita, and they have been predicting that it was going to hit Texas (Houston, Galveston) & Louisianna again. Erring on the side of caution in light of how bad Katrina was, they were making sure that everyone left, and that proper care was in place just in case. Wow, George Bush is so clever, he sent the hurricane to Texas, & made sure that his state was prepared, all to make himself look like a hero & redeem himself. That is just ridiculous. I actually don't really care much for him, but it's those people who are so against him that say such ridiculous things that drive me crazy. Believe me, no matter where the hurricane would have been "predicted" to hit, & everyone knew it was hitting Texas long before it did, he would've made sure that it was handled correctly, yes, so as not to lose more lives, but I'm sure to redeem himself. Believe me, he has not redeemed himself in my eyes or most people's eyes, but the fact that Texas was the victim & he is from Texas is a coincidence. He's not powerful enough to cause nature to send a hurricane for PR purposes.

Too little too late

he is seen to be making an effort with hurricane Rita, but this is a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted in my opinion - the damage to his reputation has already been done with his inaction over Katrina.

Before beginning, I would like you to apologize my very bad English... I am French and I was not a very good English learner at school...

Be sure that here in France we think about all those poor people in Louisiana and Mississipi.
It is just that at the early beginning french people did not realized it was so tragic because the medias said that everything was under control. After only 2 days, we saw on TV the tragical pictures of a devastated country.

Our gouvernment is ready to send help. We have logistics ready to go from the Antilles ( Guadeloupe and Martinique ) The problem is that Mr Bush first said that you did not need any help. He changed is mind after having realized how much the area was devastated. You are not alone. We will do the best we can, with the few logistics we have. ( That is not a lot, but our country is not as big as yours. )

All that I can tell you is : " Courage ! " But I know that american people are courageous.

Thank you for your kinds words

Thank you so much for the messages. I thank you for your country's help as well! Sorry if I came across angry, it was just upsetting to read criticism right now with everything happening here. All of our states are doing what we can to help also. The thing is that after the hurrican Louisianna seemed to be fine, but unfortunately the lake flooded the city, and the devastation didn't start until 1 or 2 days after the hurricane, so it is understandable that you would've been told that all was okay. Thank you again!
