Smoking ban

Does anyone think this would work in Britain?
Would be interested to hear from Scottish and Irish people in particular, as I know it has been in place there for a while.

Hi!

Hello! At least in Italy, no way, and people take any good reason to have a smoke outside,
which makes the meals kind of funny when the addicts go out... not very polite...

We will have this in France pretty soon, like a couple of months, I don't know how people will react,
but I guess there will be more private parties, and less people in the cafés and the pubs.

I have a friend currently in Ireland, and she thinks that the ban modified the "visits" to the pubs, which on top of this close very early in the evening.

Intersting

I didn't realise smoking was going to be banned in France as well soon! Wow, I never thought we'd see that! I suppose pubs and bars will become very different places now. Do French people think this is a good thing, generally speaking?

70 percent

a study showed 70% of the people agreed on the smoking ban in France
thus, I am kind of sure the other people will (for a time?) rather spend evenings at home
or in private parties, bringing with them non-somking people.
I don't mean that smoking federates, but I think bars, restaurants, pubs, discos will be a little empty
until they organize dedicated "allowed smoking" areas.
The places which will not do it might have a hard time losing customers...

I think

If people had to, then they would. Apparently in Scotland and Ireland, they've made the outsides of pubs a nice place to be, with wall-mounted ashtrays and heating, so people can smoke there and not both the customers and staff inside.
