Medical testing

hello,

Is medical testing a normal procedure when hiring someone for a finance position? I am asking this question because i just had a medical testing (nothing special) and I am not familiar with this procedure since I am a french national applying for a company in ireland.
also, does medical testing means that I will be given the job?

I think the rules are different between countries - in the UK companies can monitor the websites that their employees look at from their work computers, while I know that in france, it's considered spying and is illegal. Quiet interesting really - whois right?!

I know it's becoming more and more widespread and quiet controversial. I think you're right in thinking that they only do it when you've got quite far into the process, but it might not necessarily mean you've got the job.
Is it not the same in France then?
