Temp work advice

I have been in my current job for almost 6 years which has been retail managment, customer service based, i now wish to take a different career path. But i am uncertain on what path to take...I have considered temp work to gain some experience...and would appreciate any advise, on going about doing this, besides approaching agencies. I have very few office based skills, and am uncertain what i can provide when asking for a job.
Any form of advice would be truely helpful..
