He's embarrassed of me in public! help! x

sorry, am just very annoyed right now. well, recently I started meeting up with a boy that ive been out with before but we split up over some really stupid argument. I was texting him about a week ago and he asked me whether we could get back together soon, (which is basically asking me out again, right?), i said yes probably but not straight away because of us splitting up before, he said that was cool and seemed really excited at the prospect. then I saw him again a few days ago, having thought about it and decided that actually i did want to be with him again, i tried to bring up the subject in a lighthearted way but he completely avoided the subject! i was really hurt but didn't want to show it, later that night we started talking about our text converation and he completely denied being able to remember asking me out, i hinted that i'd like to get back together but he just brushed it off and when we went home i didn't even get a goodnight kiss, which is completely NOT like him, and he'd been all over me all night???????????? what is this all about? i text him afterwards figuring i'd just like to have it out, and asked him out ut then remembered that he doesn't have credit. . . im sooo confused.
also he acts really wierd, he's very forward and all over me infront of my mates, but as soon as we get in public, he just pushes me away. like for example, we were walking along and he gave me a massive hug and leant in to kiss me and then three people walked past and he just said really loudly 'for god's sake becky, get off me.' i don't know whether he was joking or what but it was really embarrassing. then afterwards he was just as all over me as before. i don't undrstand why he does it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please help, any advice would be really appreciated.
besides all this stuff i do really like him.
