French and scottish

hi, as the title said : i m french and "mon cheri" (my darling in french!)is scottish.we re living in scotland, very happy together, talking babies... only hapiness so far!!i would like to know if there is anyone in the same situation, i mean : he doesn't speak french at all, my family loves him but can't really speak with him (as ... they don t speak english, even if they try!!)but i was thinking : for our babies... i want them to speak french too!but it might be confusing for them...i m not pregnant ... yet!but i hope to be soon (around a year!)and i can t stop myself to think about that!i know it s possible and no choice they will have to know both languages, but ... it s not easy!
please, tell me what you think

Hi

I'm french too (living in Canada). I apologize as my english is not so good, but I wish to be fair with people who would read my answer.

You don't have to worry about bringing up your kids in a bi-lingual environment. Children minds are open and ready to stock information and cope with such a particular situation. They might take a little bit longer to start talking but they should be able to speak in both languages very quickly if you get them used to. As your "chéri" does not speak french, you should use french exclusively with your kids. The english part will come naturally from their environment, starting with dad. My brother married a nice girl from Argentina, and my niece, who is now 6, is perfectly bi-lingual.

Wish you a very nice english/french speaking family in the future

Thank you!

merci!
