how long did people date before their partner proposed

hi all,

i am desperate for my partner and i to get engaged, i feel it is the next step in our relationship

my only thing is that he is scared and says he thinks longer, we have been together for almost two years and i feel ready to take the next step.

the way he talks just makes it seem like ages away and everyone around me, my friends etc are getting engaged, some even married!

i'm 22 and he's 26

Hiya. We've being going out 24 years and OH proposed on Valentines day this year.
Well, he asked first, I had planned to ask him this year, but he beat me to it. lolol
Getting married at Gretna Green in 6 months. whoop whoop

Enjoy your youth!!

Hi,

I know exactly how you feel, lots of my friends are engaged, married, married with kids etc - I've been with my boyfriend for just over two years (I'm 28, he's 27) and finally hoped my proposal would come when he took me to Rome for Valentines this year - it didn't happen, but we did have a very long chat about it which made me realise that he is not ready for it yet and more importantly, that we still have so much to do before worrying about marriage and settling down.

Your twenties are a precious time - enjoy spending time together as a couple, see the world, buy a house, a fancy car and have fun before worrying about spending money on a ring and a wedding. When the time is right, it will happen for you, as it will for me!

I understand your frustration but if you think about it, what is the rush? a Marriage must be a two minded thing and if he feels that he has to wait then you must let it lie. When he does propose it needs to be a special moment and he can't feel pressured to do it. The more pressured a man gets into doing something, the longer he wont do it. You are still both so young, enjoy your holidays and seeing friends etc before struggling to save for a wedding. Perhaps you just want the security of being engaged? It's okay to feel like that and Im sure it will happen but try not to get to caught up with your friends getting engaged etc as everyones situation and circumstances are different... x

I know how you feel!
