How do we politely ask for money?!

We are getting married, and as is the usual now, we have our house, (and 3 kids etc) - we really would like money. I feel so awkward asking for it really, as I just want people to come to the wedding and have a good time really! However, as they expect a list, I feel I need to put some kind of note in with the invites explaining that we want money. I have had many such notes myself from other people, but stupidly I didn't keep them!

We really want to have a lovely week in the Maldives as a a late honeymoon next winter, I don't want to mention that, we are doing a lot of work to the house too, so I would rather put something along those lines in the note, can anyone help me please?!

Include a note on the map/information sheet.

You sound just like us been together 15 years 3 kids and a home. We were flooded last July so we have all new anyway.
I included in the invites a information sheet with a map to the church and reception. I did say things like. Please be in church seated by xx
I stated that we did have a gift list with Debenhams, however we have been together for 15 years and have our home and would welcome any donations towards the cost of the wedding and honeymoon. As we felt that starting married life debt free would be the best gift ever.

It worked as we have received £1400.00 already.
Whats the point of things that you dont need, you look on ebay and you will see lots of unwanted gifts.
So just be honest.

Have fun at the wedding x

I did it.

just when they say do you have a list.... id say 'no, we thot it would be easier not having one because we have everything we need for our house but if you still want to give a gift we still need a few larger items we could do with some help for....' its really easy and you can just be really casual about it!!!!
voila!!!! -x-

Money

Visit the Confetti website there are some great poems you can send out to guests about asking for money. We are getting married in 5 weeks and we got a poem off that website and asked for money our guests loved it. If you cant find it email me vickijones03@yahoo.co.uk and i will attach the one we used.

Honeymoon registry

our wedding planner actually recommended one of these for this type of situation (that we are having as well). its a honeymoon registry. (we are using honeymoon wishes.com) it makes giving money as a gift a little more personal, if you check out the site you will see what i mean. anyways you dont HAVE to spend the money on the HM, you just get the cash transferred to a bank acct after its over. the site DOES take a small tax on the gifts, but we thought this may be a more polite way than asking for straight cash in a card. hope this helps, goodluck and congrats!!
