Laser treatment for acne

Over the years I have experienced quite bad acne and as a result have been left with a fair amount of scarring on my face.

I want to do something about it but feel that a chemical peel may be quite extreme and I seriously doubt that I could stop myself from touching/picking the skin as it started to peel off (hence the current scarring issue).

Is laser treatment my only option, and is it a suitable option?

Any help would be appreciated.
