Period pain and exhaustion!

I am becoming desperate and have no idea what to do...but my period pain is so severe that, most months, i cannot even leave my bed. Not only that, but....even if i didn't have the pain, i still wouldn't be able to go very far because the feelings of exhaustion i experience are just so awful that i could sleep pretty much 24/7. (no exaggeration)

Does anyone know of any medication that could help? I don't want to take the pill as i have a history of thrombosis in my family and the injection (depo) sounds awfull too. I have gained an awful amount of weight and have heard that the depo and the pill cause water retention, which i suffer with already and am on diuretics for. I cannot take this any more.

I also have PMT and become so emotional....this is annoying because i suffer from depression as it is and it is only heightened every month.

I am severely shy and cannot tell my doctor about this, largelly because i refuse to have a smear too, i cannot bare the thought of that. Sounds silly i know, but no way am i allowing someone to do that. It is annoying because, i know i may have problems with my cervix and that is what is causing such severe cramps, but i simply cannot bare that thought, i would find it too traumatic.

Grr, my apologies for writing so much, but i really am in a desperate situation.

Pmt syndrome

Hello Mermaid57, I'm Ely from Italy, and I'm 44 years old.For many years I suffered a little bit during my period, but now I'm feeling better. I think it will come in very useful.
- Do gym before your period.Walking, jogging, cycling ,about everything is useful to download your negative energy and improve your mood ( it works|),
- eat magnesium and ask to your medician.
I have no more cramps and pain and I noticed a big improvement.
A hug Ely

Period pain

Hey Mermaid,

I started my periods when i was 10 but it was only since i was 16 i started suffering with severe pain (had pains when i was younger too, but not as severe) i can get out of bed, go to open my bowels and pass out because i lose that much blood, the pain is unbearable through my rectum and my abs. I don't know if you suffer in a similar way but i just went to my GP and said i need a painkiller for my periods, they gave me Mefenamic Acid. Unfortunately, they are prescription only, but they work so much better than Ibuprofen, i know a few people on them and they really help with the pain. Go to your GP you don't even need to tell them anything you don't want to, just ask for them. Like Ely said try taking up exercise, i do kick aerobics which does wonders for my abs and helps with my water retention, only do it once a week. Try putting ur legs straight up againt the wall, so ur back is on the floor and your legs are straight up in front. Eat plenty of fruit and veg too, avoid any fizzy or fatty foods (chocolate can actually make pmt worse). Try hot water bottles or heat pads to stimulate the muscles. I tried two types of pill and i came off them becuase they didn't agree with my body, so i just use the mefenamic acid.
Hope this helps, take care.
Meg x

Thanks

Thank you so much. I have tried most of what you just mentioned...and yeah, i do find that light exercises can help...although i cannot move enough to do them when the pain is so severe. I am able to do it when the cramps are less sore...

Thanks for mentioning that tablet...i will have to ask about them. I have also started eating healthier to see if that helps in any way. I would rather try that and make sure that i have tried all the natural ways of lessening the pain before i tell the GP.

I HATE going to the doctor! LOl...

Hiya

hiya i get period pains too and they sound just like yours i couldnt even move but... i went to to doctors and he gave me a tablet called tylex REALLY good! i didnt hav to hav a smear and im not sure why you would have to. dont be scared, go to the nurse if you feel more comfortable with a woman she can always get a prescription signed by the doctor 4 u.
good luck x

I have period pain also, it might sound difficult but the more you move the better it gets honestly, try using a heat patch on your stomach, it can be stuck to a vest top. also, i know u dnt want to hear this but i think that not having smear tests is incredibly irresponsible! they could essentially help save your life! just look at jade goody that should make anyone go for one! think about it!
