To put it bluntly, this past Saturday (today is Monday, so two days ago), I lost my virginity and my hymen was broken. I know that bleeding is normal but there are varying opinions online as to how long this should last and I'm confused. My period is not supposed to start for another day or so, but I have still been bleeding from Saturday about as heavily as a light period, and have been experiencing what feel like mild cramps though I am not sure if this is just soreness. I have heard that losing your virginity can mess up your menstrual cycle, and am thinking that maybe the hormones present "jump started" mine. The information I have looked up tells me that if it IS still the hymen bleeding, I am not supposed to use tampons as this can interrupt the healing process. I know that the bleeding varies from person to person, but I need to know if this is a normal amount of bleeding or if I have started my period, and if it is okay for me to use a tampon or not.

It sounds like it could just be your period that started early. Maybe stick with pads this time and go back to tampons next month. If this bleeding lasts longer than your period normally does, it might be an idea to check it out with a nurse or doctor. Kat x
