Smear tests...

As it is cervical cancer prevention week & iv'e just turned 25, I have booked in for my first smear test. As expected I am a little bit nervous and have a few concerns; if anyone has had one and wouldn't mind sharing their experiences id be most grateful - so i know what to expect!

I am aware that they use a speculum - but am wondering how far this thing spreads and if it hurts at all? - would it be no more than say sexual intercourse in terms of size, or a lot worse? Also, can you feel it when they use the spatula / brush thing - does it actually scrape or hurt? and how long is the whole process likely to take? would appreciate any comments. Ta.
