Single mother, need advice please!!

Please can someone help!! i am a single mum of a 2 year old and have been residing in the house that me and my ex bought togther. He as recently stated that he wants to move back in next week and said he wll do whether i like it or not (he has been living with his mum and dad for the last 3 months). He has paid 2 mortgage payments for me and i have been paying the rest, utility bills, childcare etc. I got made redundant from work a month ago and have managed to secure myself some temp work until xmas (may be able to get more out of it yet). im thinking of moving in with my parents for a while but it is not really ideal and have been querying about rent etc. I would prefer to rent from a private landlord/lady.
Does anyone know if i will get help from the state with this? I am trying my best to support me and my baby and working as much as i can but i dont think that i would be able to afford it all on my own. I have always paid my tax an NI and always worked since i left school and would never usually think of this type of help.
I have asked my local CAB but its quite awkward to get there now as i am working full time.
Has anyone heard of this before as i would imagine it is to good to be true!!
any advice would be much appreciated!!!
many thanks
Loo

sometime we all need a little help, If thats what you need to do to support your child then do it. As women we have to do what we can to raise our children.

Been there......

Hiya

I have been there - in your exact situation about 18 months ago, except I was married to the ex. He wouldn't move out the house, so I moved and private rented although on my wages I needed help. Applied for Housing Benefit, which was denied as they said I had somewhere to live (my house, as my name was on the mortgage) but chose to leave. It took me 11 months to get anything out of them, in which time I got into serious debt as my rent alone was £650 pcm for 2 bed flat and my wages were £830 pcm

I was very angry as its the first time in my life I had asked for help from the social but unfortunately in this country, if you are a british citizen who has worked and contributed to the system all your working life you are at the bottom of the list when it comes to help!

Regarding council house, again, because your name is on the mortgage (i presume?) they will not class you as a priority. They see things in black and white. You have a house, therefore live in it. The only way to get a council house would be to sell yours and you have to prove that any profit made has been used to pay off debts etc. They even take any savings your children have into consideration, ie if your child has more than £3000 they tell you to use that to secure private rental.

I am not telling you this to make you feel worse babe, I just dont want you to end up in debt like I have. Don't put your faith in the system cos its all fubar! It obviously depends on the area where you live, but go the the Citizens Advice - they are really helpful when it comes to the law and what you can claim for, before you make any decisions.

Or you could just make things as akward as possible when the ex moves back, so he sods off again!!

Good luck hun

Hi

I am not entirely sure how it works but would you not be better applying for a council home? Just tell them you and your child are gonna be homeless and i am sure they will give you something.

Hey

Iv been a single mum since my lil boy was born almost 10 yrs now. there is help out there for u go to ur local council and ask what they can do im sure they should have a housing list they can put u on and since ur lil baby is so young it shouldnt take them long to find u accomodation. Get in touch with tax credit people as well if ur working over 16 hours u should be able to claim full tax credits aswell as child tax credits. Ask about housing benefit and council tax benefit aswell ..... it may be a case ul maybe have to move in with your parents but if your put on the homeless list then you should technically be able to be offered accomodation sooner ,i hope this helped and good luck to u both.
