What's this about 'modern' loose perms?

I currently have a short-ish inverted bob, between chin and shoulder length at the front but cut to the nape of the neck at the back. Imagine Rihanna, but much less sleek and sexy and slightly shorter. Its neither particularly thick nor particularly fine, dead straight and, lets face it, really quite boring...

I'm looking at the kind of perm that would give me a wave or very loose curls but I'm worried that the outermost layers of may hair at the back will be too short for this (about 1.5 inches at its shortest).

I'm a bit of a perm virgin and would like to know the dangers both aesthetically and hair-care wise. I don't want to end up with tight frizzy ringlets, or permanently dry, damaged hair. Equally, I want the style to look good even from the back where my hair is really short.

I'd really like something like this but I'm not sure my cut is the right shape: http://www.short-hair-styles-magazine .co...

Is a perm right for me?

Modern perm

Hi

I think the best option would be not to get the perm because firstly just as bleach does to hair, perms damage the hair in a similar way, and the shorter hair would need to stay straight otherwise you will end up with alot more volume in that area and it will not curl properly. Generally a perm will take about 2 inches off the length of you hair - hence many brides get extensions if they want to have curls on the day.

Also if im correct you cannot wash your hair for a while after the perm is done to make sure it doesnt drop.

You will find that when you go to the hairdressers they will advise you grow your hair a few more inches, have a few intensive treatments to get your hair in great order etc before they will consider doing so.

Bare in mind it only takes a few mistakes to completely ruin your hair and years of intensive treatments and care if things go wrong

I would suggest a pair of curling tongs for those days you want to change it up, honestly dont ruin your hair if your unsure

Xx

I agree ~ i had 2 perms years and years ago, and my hair is only just starting to get into good condition, from being totally parched, like it had been fried!
I do think loose curls look great, and if it wasnt so damaging id have another one myself, but perms do make your haor considerably shorter looking, as it just springs up, and even at my length (armpits), i think it would make too much of a difference.
I dont think you'd get a loose modern curl into 1.5 or 2" hair ~ you would get a tight poodle curl in probably, which im sure you dont want!
Id say either grow your hair to have it done, or try an updated cujt instead ~ or even extensions.
