I want my natural color back!

My hair is normally a very dark brown. About 3 months ago I dyed it completely black. I now want my natural color back. I got Loreal's natural color dye and tried to dye it back to a shade a little lighter than my original color- but it only lightened my roots and not my whole hair! Now my roots are even MORE obvious- and the black is still there!

I'm really afraid to bleach my hair and re-dye it because I know it will damage my already damaged hair (I'm a lifeguard and the chlorine kills my hair). Is there any brand or anything I can do to get my whole head of hair back to brown??

It happend to me too.I looked a mess.But what i did was blech my hair and the old colorwas gone and my hair looked like befor idied itbut just a little liter.

I am glad im not the only one with this problem. i have dyed my hair near enough black and my roots are coming through now but dont want to re dye it the same colour as want to try and lighten my hair. but as u said if u dye it ligher its only the roots that pick the colour up. dam permanent hair dye!! my hair is long too so it would take forever to wait for it to grow out!

Same with me, except i dyed my hair purple.

The only thing i've heard of is hair dye strip, which most hair salons offer. The problem is, your hair turns white for a few days, because it takes absolutely everything off.

I did the dye-it-a-lighter-shade mistake ^_^ Not a good move ('specially for me).

Best bet is to wait for it to grow out. It will take much longer for you though, because black dye lasts much longer than any other colour.
