**dark brown long hair....what's a girl to do!?

I have dark brown, almost black, long, straight hair that doesn't hold anything! I'm going to get a hair cut tomorrow and also want to get some colouring done. I've had my hair highlighted previously with a honey caramel color, but I always run into the problem of my hair getting too "bronzy". Does anyone have any suggestions for color? I work in a lawfirm, so I have to be pretty conservative, but I can't seem to decide if I want to stay light, and get the same highlights put in, or if I want to go to dark auburn lowlights? Any suggestions and if you have any pictures of your hair would be great!
