Serums
Hi!
I'm also a straightener junkie! lol
One way of preventing heat damage is to use silicon based serums and sprays...
Some of you might be thinking silicone...eeeek!!!! ...but actually haircare has come on a lot in the last few years and many companies have developed these light-molecular silicones which are actually water soluble and actually condition your hair rather than damage it... They are the same silicons that are used in really expensive face creams.
Ok, so do they help... Well in my experience as a stylist, definitely! They wont repair your hair permanently, so if you see any that claim that... save your money But what they do is help you to manage your damage... It means that you can 'seal' your splits and stop them getting any worse, so the next time you get a trim your hair will be much healthier than if you hadn't been using the product... They also make your hair really easy to brush and keep it glossy and silky soft... So it looks wonderful even if your hair's true condition is far from 100%.
These kind of products are the ones they use in shampoo commercials to make the hair look that good...shhhh don't tell
Ok... so what are the best.... here are a few I have personally tried and can recommend...
The cheapest - John Freda does a range of bits and bobs for smoothing frizz and protecting hair... you can get the full range from boots.
The mid-price - Paul Mitchel 'super strong liquid treatment' is a good one, but its not pure... you get a big bottle but its bulked out with a carrier, so you get a lot of product but it doesn't last for ages as you need to use a fair bit, but it does distribute nicely in the hair.
The higher-end - Snovik Hair Care 'thermal smoothing drops' and 'beat the heat'... The beat the heat is similar to the Paul Mitchel product but with more heat protection and its lighter so it doesn't kill your volume... The thermal smoothing drops are a concentrated serum that contains only the pure heat protecting serum, so it should give the best protection possible for straightening - Its a bit of a 'backstage' secret in Scandinavia.
Hope that helps!
