| Thread started by: | "My (long) story - " Posted by danie266 6 September at 13:14
I had my ba last Sunday 31st august with Mr Kazzazi through mya. I arrived at Park Hill Capio hospital in Doncaster at 6.15am. I was one of three to have the operation this morning, as I was late I was sure I would be the last, and would be facing a nervous long wait, while starving and dying of thirst. I buzzed to be let into the hospital, the woman on the intercom let us in, we waited in reception for a while until we were shouted to come down the corridor. When we arrived upstairs, we met the nurse on reception, who looked half asleep, full of cold and grumbled morning to us. I was shown to my room and told the nurse would come down soon. 5 minutes later the same nurse from reception came down, asked me a few questions about my health etc, carried out blood pressure checks, temperature and gave me the stocking and gown to change into. Told me everyone was or has been full of cold and germs (great thought when Ive been avoiding people with illness all week and these are the people who need to be looking after me) she also stated that nursing would be great without the patients - WHAT!! Anyway that is the only poor experience of this hospital, every other nurse and staff member was lovely, did everything in their power to ensure I was as comfortable as possible and truly seemed to enjoy their job. I then changed into my gown and stockings. I questioned about the paper knickers I had heard about but I did not receive these.
The anaesthetist came in also asked me a few questions and ensured I knew what was going to happen. The surgeon followed 5 minutes later and asked a few questions, asked me to sign the consent form and drew on me, confirmed I would be having 410cc high profile under the muscle. He then said that they would be back soon.
I only had chance to go to the toilet before a nurse/porter came to collect me and take me to theatre. I gave my mum and my friend hugs and went to the lift, mum followed me to here and gave me one last hug, horrible thoughts went through my mind, was I sure I wanted to do this, had I considered all the risks, what if dont wake up. I told myself to stop been stupid this was so rare and I had wanted this for so long, there is no turning around now. At 7.15 I followed him to a small room, I was told to lay on the bed, some monitors were placed on my back and arms, and a drip was put into my wrist, dont think a vein was clear in my hand. I was told I was to be given something to help my stomach with the anaesthetic, I felt dizzy and the room was spinning, I lay there for a while chatting to the nurse, not sure if I made sense at this point. I was then told I was going to sleep.
My next memory is of waking up, chatting away to the nurse or someone and having a quick glance at my new boobs. Next I am in my room, feeling really sick and my mum and friend there. I was sick a little and given a tablet to hold against my gum, this didnt help, I was still dizzy and sick, and couldnt really move. The nurse then gave me an injection of something, which took the sickness away but made me go to sleep for a couple of hours.
When I woke up I felt fine, my chest was heavy and tight and thought I would never be able to move. Managed some water and the nurse got me a cup of tea and biscuits- which was like chewing cardboard. I buzzed the nurse and told her I need to go to the toilet, she told me how to get up but I was to do this on my own, I managed to get to the edge of the bed, felt sick and dizzy and had to lay back down, the toilet could wait. I went to sleep again- I think.
Later on I felt ok to have some soup and crackers but couldnt manage the sandwich. I felt ok to go to the toilet and have a wash and brush my teeth, taking my small handbags (drains) with me. I slept all night and the nurses came any time I buzzed and checked numerous times my blood pressure. The night nurse even came and introduced herself and made sure I knew she would be there if needed.
The next morning I had some toast and the nurse came to take the drains out. The first one came out ok, felt a little pain, nothing to worry about. The right was a little more uncomfortable, felt a lot of pulling before it was released. Mr Kazzazi came in, had a look at my new boobs and said everything was fine. The nurse provided me with my medication and said I was free to go once I was ready. My mum and friend came to collect me at 9.30 am, by this time I was able to walk around, got changed myself and felt a whole lot better.
I arrived home, feeling stiff and with all the tablets Im taking, felt sick most of the time, although this is getting better since discontinuing the co-codamol. Im currently wearing a 36d sports bra, but hoping they will be a bit bigger once I have the strapping off on Monday. Im gradually able to do more things and no regrets at all. I am happy with the result, just hope Im visited by the fluffing fairy.
Thanks to all of you that let me see your pictures and gave me advice and support when needed, been a great help.
