2 days post op & feeling great!!
Hi guy's i found this forum so helpful prior to my op so thought i would share my experience...(sorry if it's long winded!!)
My admission time was 11.30am @ Doncaster, i set off with plenty of time to spare but had car issues after only been on the road 20 mins!! What a nightmare!!! I ended up arriving at the hospital about 40 minutes late, i have to say the staff were so friendly & put me at ease... As at this point i was starting to fret about holding everyone up! I hate being late!! I was taken to my room which i was really impressed with, it was very clean & fresh, had a flat screen tv, a telephone & en-suite bathroom - Along with some Molton Brown goodies for me to take home! (shame i cant enjoy them for a while! ha) It wasnt long before a nurse came to go through some paperwork with me (medical history etc) i was then told to change into my gown, paper knickers & surgical stockings (how attractive!!) not long after Mr.Kazzazi came to see how i was feeling, asked if i had any questions, marked my chest & asked me to sign my consent forms, the anesthetist came along to run by everything & after admitting i was a tad scared of needles he said he would apply some kind of cream to numb my hand - On the run up to the op the needle in my hand was my biggest fear!!! I was told by the nurse i was 3rd on the list so i was expecting to go to theatre around half 3 - 4ish so the next couple of hours if im honest seemed like forever!! I passed the time by reading my mags & watching tv.....I finally went down to theatre at 5pm I can't say at any time i felt fear it just felt a surreal experience, i had a lovely nurse talking to me whilst the anesthetist did what he had to do i remember thinking 'i wonder what it looks like in the theatre' i also remember looking at the clock & it was 5.15pm...The next thing i remember was waking up to a friendly voice saying 'hello' i looked at the clock & it was 6.45pm, i was then taken to my room where my partner was waiting Over the following few hours i just seemed to drift off randomly... at about 10pm the nurse came with some toast & i just remember drinking loads of water but considering i'd been nil by mouth for what felt like a lifetime im not suprised!! I had what felt like a buffet for breakfast - I enjoyed ever last mouthful!! Toast, porridge, fruit, scrambled egg -The works! & i was discharged around 10.30am after having to hang around for a while for my drains out.... Painless may i add!!! The hardest part ive found so far (i appreciate im only 2 days post op) is the restrictions on what i can do, im having to ask my partner to do everything for me even baby wiping my armpits!! Yuk!! I just feel so sticky & smelly right now baby wipes are my saviour!!! My chest feel's tight & im taped up like a mummy but it's nothing more than i expected, im not in pain & managed a full nights sleep so i dont think im doing bad!
