Not so ... disolvable stitches!

Advice Please, My scars are healing nicely now 17 days post op. The stitches at the end are the thickest and don't seem to be disolving, I haven't anything done to them (trimmed or anything), I can't seem to pull them out with the tweezers and skin is growing over them. Don't want to end up with lumps at the end of the scar line. Any experience or ideas appreciated.

They go eventually...

Mine was the same Dawnie - they just disappeared in the end

Check your grammar, ellesbelles...

mine was? not mine were?

honestly, did I learn nuffink at skool?

Don't pull out

I had exactly the same and phoned Elyzea but I was 6 weeks post op. They won't dissolve so easily because of the knot but you have to wait at least 5 weeks. Don't worry about skin growing over them you won't get a lump or anything like that. I went to my gp at 7 weeks and she took one of them out with tweezers and left the other as she said the body will push it out on its own and fair enough a couple of days later after a bath it just came out as I was wiping myself. You have nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps.

Message for shani39

Tried to send message to you but getting problems. Will send details in a couple of days when forum goes back to normal. Just wanted things to settle down etc. I accidentally pressed the wrong button when I sent the first message as I hadn't completed it and now I can't get through. Hope you get this. Maybe if someone can be so kind to forward this message to Shani39 I would be most grateful. Thanks.

Thanks girls

I am just a bit worried I have let them grow over too much, when you did the delicate soak and removal how far after surgery was it? I am 17 days.

Cheers

Hi

Mine were like this too. They needed cutting before being able to be pulled out. The nurse in the clinic did this for me.

Make an appointment with the nurse at your ps clinic or even your local docs.

Stitches

I had a similar problem too, I soaked my stiches well under the shower and then slowly used the tweezers to pull them out, but it was very difficult doin it myself so in the end my mum did it for me.. It took me about a week to get rid of the funny ends, cos everytime it would hurt my skin. I wouldn' trim it or else it makes it harder to pull but js try every day to pull it or get someoone to pull it. Or even better wait until you see you surgeon or nurse. Good luck.

Mine were the same...

They were sort of sticking out at the end but they did dissapear so I wouldn't worry. xx

I had this

My stitches didnt dissolve either and on day 10 they were so tight and painful i got my mum to have a look at them. There were little spiky bits sticking out and irratating me as they caught and rubbed on my bra. She managed to remove several small pieces but there was a large piece left at the end of one of my scars. She tried to take it out but it started to bleed so she left it. A few days later it was really red and inflammed and transform would do nothing at all about it, i got my mum to pull it out and the relief was instant mainly due to the fact that the piece of stitch that was left in there was 3 inches long and instead of the PS trimming it down and tying it off it looked like he'd just ravelled it up and left it in there. Im so glad i got my mum to have a close look and pull it out. I've had 2 c-sections and they do cause lumps if left in there, as an experiment i put the long piece of stitch in some water to see how long it dissolved and 2 weeks later it still hadnt????????
