Rhinoplasty, does the swelling go down?

Iv had Rhinoplasty done ten days ago and i have just had my cast taken off and I am slightly worried as the tip still looks rather big like it did previously. The nurse ensured me that it is just merely swelling but i am really panicing that the surgeon did not do much to the tip as i used to have a bump in my nose but that has been removed and looks great.
So if anyone has had rhinoplasty could u please let me know how much swelling there was in the tip of the nose so i will know if mine will ever go down

Hi hun.

I had rhinoplasty 2/3 years ago and my nose wasn't swollen at all.
They were so sensitive that I couldn't touch them for a year tho, but the end results were shown straight away. x

Swelling on the tip of the nose

Hi, I'm really impressed with the top of my nose where the bump has been removed but my mother says the tip looks bigger than it did before i started!!! and I have to agree with her. There is swelling around the scar but its day 10 now and i've had no bruising of problems but I cant see that there is any great difference from the nose I already had!! Does anyone know if it will chage at all or should I be speaking to pc again?

Tip swelling

I can fully relate to these experiences. I had a full rhinoplasty & septoplasty done 5 days ago, and am having my cast taken off tomorrow. I have been quite lucky in that I have had very little bruising & swelling in my eyes & face, except for the tip of my nose. The main reason I had this done was to remove a hump on the bridge of my nose - no tip work. But my surgeon insisted in lifting my tip 1mm, so i respected his professional judgement. Well, the hump is now gone so I'm happy with that part, but my tip which used to be quite pointy & refined, is not rounded & bulbous! And before you couldn't see my nostrils when you looked at me face-on, but now you can and I look like Miss Piggy! Which is exactly what I said to my surgeon I did NOT want to happen! So I'l reeeeeeally hoping this is only because the tip is swollen, and am praying it will drop again once the swelling goes down...otherwise I want my old nose back!
Any of you have the same experience? Does the bulbous tip go away & drop a bit in time?

Tip swelling

Hi. I just read your message and wanted to find out how you are 5 months on. I have just had a 2nd surgery to have my tip reduced and am due to have the plaster off in 2 days. However, I am already concerned that I seem to have a MIss Piggy look, with my nostrils being more obvious (I already had a bit of an upturned nose anyway) and also my nostrils seem to have got bigger. Is this just swelling I wonder or am I going to have a permanent piggy look?

Also, are you in the UK? Which surgeon did you use?

Hi

Hello there,

Well I have to say that gradually and day by day my nose is beginning to change. The tip is narrower and less bulbous. However ,it is a very slow process but I think you will begin to see a difference in a few weeks. It can take anything from 1 year upwards to see a real difference seemingly. I'm only 7 weeks post op so it's early days for us both. I was panic stricken when I looked in the mirror but it does change. Yours will too, dont worry. Let me know how it goes.

I am going through the same exact situation...

My tip looks big like my old nose too.. I really wanted to cry when I looked in the mirror. Apparently it's still swollen, but I know what you're going through right now. Really NOT fun! I also had a bump in my nose and I really like what the doctor has done with that. The tip is freaking me out though. I feel like I could put a red ball at the end and become a circus clown. How's your bruising? Mine is very minimal.

5 weeks and scared......

hey there.....it has been 5 weeks since i got my nose done and the bump is gone yay...but the tip of my nose is still swollen and im freakin out that it is not gonna go down.
Fingers crossed i didn't pay all that money for nothing...i'm sure you can all agree.

It's improving!!

Hi. Well I'm pleased to say that my nose is narrowing and so looks smaller. But the tip is still similar to the way it used to be hmmm... so I'm just hoping that time sorts it out and this isn't the way it's gonna be.

How's yours looking now? x

Nightmare swelling

Hi there,

I'm in the same boat. My surgery was 7 days ago. My dressing and stitches were removed yesterday and I've cried sine. Firstly my skin han a reaction to being under the dressing and approx 15 big yellow spots were revealed with a bigger nose than I had originaly. I'm panicing.

How is your nose now?

My surgeon said I'll need to be patient. I've got a concert to go to next week. I need to get rid of these spots first

Hey, ive got a rhinoplasty booked for next month. How was the result of ur nose after? And where did u have it done to? x

Removal of hump only - swelling?

Hi I only want to get my hump removed, no tip work. How bad is the swelling as I was hoping it would not be as bad if I am only removing the hump?

Dont worry

dont panick hunnie, i thought the same and im now 4 weeks post op and its getting better! it takes a yr to fully go down,.xx

Hey

Hi There

Well it has been 4 weeks and my nose is not as swollen, but I stil have a bit of a hump on the left and the right side of the bridge of my nose, which is worrying me as it makes my profile look weird, although everyone says it looks fine, to me it makes my nose look like a bit deformed and sort of square at the top. I have read that this can take a couple of months to go down, I am praying that this is the case as I am so upset when I see pics of my old nose, you don't know what you've got till its gone I suppose. If that swelling does come down i will be so relieved.

Did you have rhinoplasty? Cos I had nose manipulation which is slightly different. How is your nose looking?

Hello

Hi

I have just been reading your comments I have got the same problems with the a bit of the hump on the right hand side of the bridge that also makes it look a bit deformed this is 4 weeks since the op was done and two since the cast was taken off I had a load of swelling and most has gone down but what is left makes it look even worse, they said I could go back to work and no one would notice (that a joke)

How are you now has all the swelling and hump gone and how long did it take, I am regretting this at the moment, you reply would really be appricated, thank you and hope you are ok now.

Thanks Denise

Swelling after septo-rhinoplasty

I am 4 weeks down the line after a septo-rhinoplasty and I too have lots of swelling still to go especially in the lower half of my nose. This makes me look like I have a bulbous tip (that bit was ok before). I am trying to be positive and I think it's important that we don't under estimate the psychological effect of changing the most prominent feature of our faces and one that we have become accustomed to for so many years. It is bound to makes us feel wierd about ourselves for a while. The other thing is that what we see is not what others see. So many people who know me reasonably well haven't even noticed or have said things like 'have you changed your hair' (now that would have been cheaper)!!! I have to keep telling myself not to keep looking in the mirror because I think it is far too easy to become completely obsessed with it and all we see in the mirror is our noses! On a practical note I have found that using make up helps to hide areas of swelling. I have been using a slightly highlighting cover up in a straight line down the bridge of my nose and then blending in a slightly darker (bronzing type) shade each side which definately gives the appearence of a straighter and less swollen nose. I use a mineral make up which works really well but doesn't clog your pores of 'float' on top of the sore swollen skin.
Hope this helps.
Sally

Hey

just wondered if the tip swelling has gone down? had my rhino 11 days ago and im quite down about the amount of swelling i have
thanks

Hi...also worried!

Hello....I had a septorhynoplasty 14 days ago.........had the tip done and the small hump removed whilst having my left nasal valve re-constructed to ease breathing. The operation n recovery has been absolutely fine...no pain and no regrets so far! The tip is now swollen on the left where the work was done (as expected).....hoping this goes down soon!!! As it looks wonky! The hump seems to still be there, especially on the right hand side strangely???? As I never had a bump on this side before surgary? but I am applying frozen peas on my nose daily (ha ha) and the hump does seem to be getting smaller!!!!! - am going to carry on reading these posts and wish you all luck with ur final result!!!! P.s my nose is really blocked at this stage but think i have a cold! So fingers crossed! x ??? Sure will have the most lovely nose next year! Hope so xxx

1 week 2 days into rhinoplasty

How did your rhinoplasty go???? I am 1 week and 2 days into my rhinoplasty and it has been a horablie experince. The doctor says the swelling will go down and it will start to look better, however if I could turn back time I would have never done it. I now know the pain of rhinoplasty and it is petty deep. You spend lots of money and go though lots of pain and when 1 week after the rhinoplasty you are left with a worse looking nose and all you have is hope. Man I hope this pain turns into the best time of my life in 2 weeks,.... all I can do is wait. To me the big ???? and the pain you go though is just not worth it. If anyone out there is thinking about rhinoplasty make sure your nose is pretty damn bad because its not what you think. If my rhinoplasty turnes out okay I will let you know. For now I have my blines shut and I am hiding from the world.

Hi

How are feeling now I am in the same frame of mind you were it has been 4 weeks after the op and im looking worse with swelling and lumps on the side and the bridge really read and swollen, are you happy now and how long did it take to go right down.

thanks Denise
