Whose role is it to buy lingerie?

I was wondering what you're thoughts are on buying lingerie: is it the lady's role or her partner's role?

I tend to think that it should be something the man buys as a present for the lady (something tasteful not tarty) but at the same time I don't particularly like receiving lingerie as a birthday or Christas present. It should be a gift that's given randomly.

My partner doesn't entirely agree. He thinks that I, as the lady, should choose my own lingerie. At least I know I'll like what I'm getting but at the same time why should I waste my hard-earned money on buying things to "entertain" him?

Let me know your thoughts on this one!

It's a difficult call to make

It really depends on how "in tune" your boyfriend is with the whole lingerie buying thing. As you know it really can be quite a difficult task for us ladies sometimes so how can we expect a man to buy us something that fits, looks good, is teh right colour and is both comfortable and fitting of an occasion. Some lingerie sites offer guides for men, I found one that should be a good starting point and at least give them some ideas of where to begin, maybe we should point our men in the right direction to start with and they "might" just find us something we like - the site below is where I found the tips

oh yah

Sweet,

I totally agree with you on that one hun.

If u want him to buy it for u, he should buy it for u

Or maybe you could go lingerie shopping together? Then there's room for negotiations

It really depends...

While I do buy my own lingerie, my fiance says that he would like to buy one for me. But when he does, it means that it's something to be worn NOT with outer clothing on. I believe that when a guy wants to buy his girl lingerie, it's something that he wants to see on her. Maybe your partner is just afraid that he'd buy you something that you wouldn't like or you'd get upset about.

I think it depends entirely

if I let my boyfriend know my sizes, My whole bedroom would be covered with red lace - I think if a woman buys her own underwear, she can choose whatever she wants, but when her partner buys it, I think he would (going by my boyfriends views) buy what he would want to see on his partner - irrespective of whether it is what she likes or not. fortunately, I know that my boyfriend likes red lace, and I like it too. My opinion is that it depends entirely.

Whose role is it to buy lingerie?

Carrie, If you see a nice item or even a matching set in the lingerie dept' and you like it enough to wear it, be it for every day or going out then you should buy it. The same for your partner, if he see's some nice lingerie that he believes you'll like then he too should buy it for you.

I am new to wearing pretty, matching and co ordinated lingerie and I would never go back to my 'Bridget Jones' Knicks and vest etc...

I feel so much more confident wearing my matching sets. My underwear is the foundation to all my outfits and how I feel for the day.

I now buy all my bra's with two or three matching thongs briefs etc. That way I can wear that bra for a couple of days and know that I have knicks which are co ordinated for both days!

As for your partner, tell him what you like. Teach him how to purchase your size and what is everyday wear and what is something a bit more special. He will be happy and more confident to buy for you, he may even be inspired to buy for you just because... !

As for spending your hard earned cash 'just to entertain him'??? You are in this together... play tease enjoy the moment together! Bedroom lingerie is still taken too seriously by 'us' girls... have fun. If he buys something that is a bit saucy let him have it. Believe me the rewards will be tenfold!

Anyway's, in short I think you should both buy Lingerie.

Who to buy

I know that the majority of ladies purchase their own lingerie. I run my own website, which is www.adultsunderwear.com
The majority of my customers are ladies, whether they are buting for themselves or their partners.
It is nice to receive lingerie gifts off men though every now and again...
Remeber, the lingerie isnt only for him...its for you to feel sexy and confident also.

Who's role is it to buy lingerie

Interesting question because women seem to do a lot of the buying and not only for themselves.

We are an online retailer of men's designer underwear and we get a lot of women buying underwear for their man, briefs, trunks, boxer shorts and thongs.

So it seems that women tend to buy a lot for themselves and also for the man.

I think that it should always be down to the individual as they tend to know what they like, or at least make sure you are buying something you know what they want or better still buy them a gift voucher so they can choose themselves.

Men typically buy women uncomfortable g-strings and thongs, which appeal to them and yet aren't really what their partner wants.

On the other hand, women seldom buy men a thong because they don't think men look good in them and yet these are one of our best selling styles for men. Why? Because men report that they are the most comfortable style for a man who places as much importance on their bits and pieces being supported as women do in having the right bra to support themselves.

Depends...

It depends what its for. If its to entertain your partner then they should buy it. But lingerie is such a personal thing that for everyday lingerie you should buy your own so you have something you feel comfortable and happy in. For bras in particular its essential to try on first in my opinion, though both myself and my wife get a bra fitting every six months or so and make sure we know the other persons size just in case we get the urge to buy a present!.

Always impractical

I use to buy my wife lingerie but always seem to buy the wrong thing...She rarely liked what I bought her or it was uncomfortable...

Now days I buy my own and she buys her own and that seems to solve the problem...Every so often I will buy her the same as I buy myself so we can wear matching lingerie but overall a man's taste differs from a woman's...

Buying underwear..

I have a little boutique and have quite a few gents coming in to buy lingerie for their other halves. They split in to few groups, those that know the size and have a strong idea of what they are looking for, those that are a little lost and looking for some help and those that are following instructions.

We always take our customers size and preferences and try and guide our gentleman customers and it tends to work quite well as we don't get many returns and the guys keep coming back. I always try and recommend that they buy something a little bit pretty and frivolous as a treat rather than something safe. After all, shouldn't presents be fun?

Most of our customers are women who buy their own, mainly because they love good underwear and how it makes them feel. I think pleasing a man is just an additional benefit.
