Start by following the dietary and lifestyle advice in Gillian's books. Avoid sugar, refined carbohydrates, processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, salt and additives. Eat a diet of whole natural foods including whole grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, fruit, vegetables, sea vegetables, fish and lean meats and drink water and herbal teas. Eat small, regular meals and snacks rather than large meals.
Particularly important is the balance of fats in your diet; the omega 3 fats are anti-inflammatory so include foods rich in these such as oily fish, avocadoes, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, flax seeds and their cold pressed oils. Supplements of evening primrose oil, fish oil, zinc, magnesium and B6 can also be helpful. There are various herbs that can help as well but it is best to consult a practitioner before taking any of these.
Get some fresh air, daylight and exercise every day. Dry skin brushing is great for getting the lymphatic system moving so do this before you shower.
There are lots of ideas in Gillian's books so read You are what you eat, You are what you eat - the cookbook and The Ultimate Health plan for lots of inspiration and recipe ideas. Gillian's new Food Bible is a must for every household as it covers many aspects of food and health and has an A-Z of illnesses and what to do about them.
In order to get specific and personal advice it is necessary to consult a nutritional therapist for a face to face consultation. They will take your whole case history and will explain what the imbalances are that may be causing the symptoms and will give nutritional and lifestyle recommendations to help restore balance. Go to www.bant.org.uk or www.ion.ac.uk to find one in your area
