Diet/caffine intake during pregnancy?

can any 1 give me a little info. does any 1 know the effects of caffine on babies during pregnancy?
ive read some right horror stories about caffine having similar effects to afs (alcohol fetal syndrome)
but then they say studies are inconclusive
ive just about given up on finding out what foods are safe to eat while tring/being pregnant, ie eggs, seafood and fish, nuts, red meat etc....
does any 1 have any sound advice?
thanx xxx

Hi hun,

don't really know much about the possible effects of caffeine just that your intake should be reduced/moderated during pregnancy. The NHS pregnancy book the midwife gives you when you do fall pg recommends no more than 6 cups of tea or 3 of coffee per day and that anything with caffeine (chocolate and coke etc.) should only be consumed in moderation. I just think it's a matter of being sensible and thinking a bit more about what you put in your body and if you listened to all the advice you wouldn't eat or drink anything! I've definitely cut down on my tea and chocolate intake with this pregnancy (my only real vices!) but still have the occasional can of coke if I fancy, just don't go mad. The runny eggs things is a bit of a problem for me (love them) and I do still indulge now and again but any eggs carrying the lion stamp come from chickens vaccinated against salmonella anyway so should in theory be safe and I've had no problems. It really is a matter of common sense to be honest and sometimes causes more worry than necessary so just be sensible and you should be fine. Babydust to all and masses of good luck to all of you.

Lotsa love,
Clare 26+6 xxx
