I planned on a water birth

I planned to use the water as pain relief, however I needed to be moving during the later contractions, even just walking on the spot. The mid wife convinced me to have a bath,as i was 3cm dialated and wanting an epidural (which was not on my birth plan at all! But after being in labour for 30 hours by that point i needed a rest!) However the midwife said to have a bath first and if I still wanted one afterwards they would talk about it. So I thought get in the bath, make her happy then i can have drugs! I hit the water and the contractions sped up no end! they were coming every 20 secs and lasting about a min, My husband managed to get me dried and dressed again and i ran back to my bed in between contractions (10 mins had passed since last inspection) I was now 10 cm dialated and wanting to push! They were amazed!

So much for water relaxing and even sometimes slowing things down! It was the complete opposite for me! Not sure if I'll try a bath again this time to see if it will help it be a quick labour!?

I did end up having a tri-lateral tear, (tore in three directions!) Which might have been prevented if i had spent more time in the water, helping the skin stretch?

Put it down on your birth plan if you think you may want one, you can always get out if yu don't like it, they wont keep you in there if you don't want to be.

I don't know if this helped at all?

Probably not!

Good luck!
