Hi there

Would anyone have the patience to explain to me how the gestation period works?

I've read it is between 3742 weeks, or between nine and nine and a half calendar months, and that doctors start counting from the first day of your last period, even though you conceived after this.

But by weeks, do they mean 7 days a week counting, or do we have to take into consideration that there are more than 28 days in a month?

If, say, a doctor told you you were to give birth on the beginning of august (or up to two more weeks after), when would the baby have been conceived?

Or, if someone conceived the baby around the third week of November and the baby was born at the end of July, would that be normal gestation or would the baby be premature (the baby was born with 3.300 kg)?

I'm sorry if this sounds silly!

Thanks

"Hard to understand"

I had a problem understanding that too. I just figured out when the 1st day of my last period was. Lets say it fell on a Saturday. So, every Saturday I reached (7 days) was another week. They just basically give you a time frame of 40 weeks and you can go as long as 42 weeks because I don't think they can pin down an exact date of conception. I thinks it's because unless you can see when the sperm reach the egg to fertalize it you can't pin down a date. I think by the baby's 40th week they are ready to come out no matter what because they are all the way developed as far as they should be. I had my baby about 2 weeks early and he was fine.
