"Cystic hygroma...."

Hi

I went for a 12 weeks scan before christmas to find my baby was nearly 16 weeks (what I thought was a period was an implantation bleed) but I was told that the baby had Cystic Hygroma which is a swelling around the head and the neck and he also had enlarge organs. I did handle it all really well and felt positive about future pregnancies but this week I've found out I'm pregnant again and panics set in!!!!

I'm so scared of going to the scan. I do already have a boy who's nearly 4 and he's perfect. I did have a miscarraige before my son was born but that never developed so knowing all of this I'm getting myself in a state and worrying what they might see.
I'm trying to be sensible as the hospital said it was lighting striking (but they never tested the baby)so am unsure why he got it! - I'm going for an early scan between 7-8 weeks I'm scared there be no heartbeat or they will find something again!
Does anybody know anybody thats gone on to have a normal pregnancy after something like this!

Cheers Jude

Huge congratulations on the 12 week scan!!! They can see so much now even so early so its great news and should make you feel a lot happier - and as you'll be 16 weeks now you'll be feeling even better. I've just been searching for "Pregnaant over 40" and came across this website and your post. I also had a baby with cystic hygroma and the preganancy ended earlier this year. It was heart rending and does make you feel like you're not capable of having "normal" babies again. I just wanted to say that I have two very good friends who both had terminations for serious choromosome problems and both went on to have gorgeous extremely bright kids. One of them had hers at 42. I don't know if I'm pregnanat yet but each month I cross my fingers and hope. I have a good feeling about this month but trying not to raise my hopes. Hope all goes well with the rest of your pregnancy and good luck!
