"Me 2" Posted by xxpreciousbabygirlxx 27 February at 22:33
hia, i've got a really bad phobia of needles to, at 16 weeks i had the triple test done n it did take quite a while n just recently i had to have a blood test at 29 weeks.. all i think is that its not just helping me its helping my baby too n thank god i did have my last blood test done because the doctor found out i was anemic through it! try not to panic too much as it will just make you feel worst, try to focus on something else while your having the blood test done, trust me its over before you know it!!

I don't like them either, I always look away and think of what i can treat myself too after and look forward to it. The thing is, the more you tense your arm the more painful it is.
So, try and put your mind elsewhere and everything will be okay xx

Try pinching yourself hard with your free hand just as you're about to get the needle.
This takes the mind off the needle and you shouldn't feel any pain! The brain is too busy concentrating on the pain from the pinch!
Believe me, ive done it many times and it works. I'd rather have the pain of a pinch than the thought of a needle poking me!!

Hey everyone. Saw my midwife today, and the blood test was a doddle, hardly felt a thing. The next time I go I will be fine! The only thing was that my veins are deep and my midwife had to get another lady to do it! I was glad as the midwife was unsure she would be able to get my blood.
Just to let anyone else know that if you have a fear of needles, dont be scared as it REALLY is NOT sore.

"Glucose tolerance test grrrrrr!!!" Posted by versiongirl 2 May at 11:05
Hi everyone, has anyone else had to have a glucose tolerance test? I am starting to feel like a freak with my second pregnancy as m overweight with a hgh BMI but my first set of blood tests were normal and my blood pressure s normal.I know the midwives and doctors have to be more cautious in overweight pregnancies but its startng to get me down. Yesterday i had my 15 week midwife appointment and she told me i will be having a glucose tolerance test where they check your blood for diabeties! I didnt even get given the option! I hate blood tests anyway and the thought of having ths test is panicking me.My sister is a ward sister/matron and said i can refuse it and she will check my glucose by a glucose finger prick test nearer the time.I mean, what happened to patient choice?? Please if anyone else feels like i do some support and opinions would be great. Thanks!
