Scan at 6 weeks

Hi,
I am 6 weeks pregnant and I've just crashed my car! I normally cycle to work but since I found out I am pregnant I've been driving, as it's 'safer' - typical!
Anyway, I am fine, but the casualty department has booked me an ultrasound scan tomorrow. Has anyone else had a scan at 6 weeks? What can they see? I think the baby is supposed to be the size of a baked bean, so how can they tell anything from a scan? Can they hear the heartbeat?

Scan at 6 weeks

Hi ya,
I just had a six week scan last Friday as I have previously had a miscarriage.
You will not see too much just looks like a black circle with a small white bit, the white bit, which is only a few mm long is the baby.
The doctor will confirm that every thing is ok and will confirm how many weeks pregnant you are.
You will not be able to hear a heartbeat but in half of the scans at this time you can see a pulsing of the baby (this is the heart beat).
At this time it looks nothing like a baby just a black bit with a white very small bit inside.
Hope this helps and every thing is ok, Good Luck I am sure you wont need it.
Emma

Reply to 6 week scan

iv had 2 misscarriages devastating , just found out im pregnant again but feel prepared more than exited. "first scan"

Hello!
I had my first scan at 7 1/2 weeks because they did not know how far along i was. It was really amazing! It looked like a monkey nut and i could see the heart beating really fast. They measure it and check the size then they can give you a due date, they also have a little look around the rest of your tummy to check everything is ok. I have heard that the heart beat can be seen from about six weeks but dont worry if you cant, im sure the doctor doing the scan will be able to tell you all you need to know. You can not hear the heart beat this early, i had my first midwife appointment at 12wks and could hear it then.

Good luck and enjoy!!

Had the scan

i has the scan today and unfortunately the doc told me that i might not even be 6 week ! although she was quiet suprised to see so much in an early [pregnancy, it was just a dot with a visable heartbeat so im booked for another dating scan in 3 week hope everything goes well till then xxx

I had a scan at 6 weeks...

Because I was flying overseas on 2 12-hour flights (with a 6 hr gap between them) and he wanted to make sure the pregnancy wasn't ectopic.

I can't remember exactly what I saw, but there might have been an heartbeat. He gave me quite a few pictures and it was all very exciting.

Enjoy!

Hi

its very possile to pick up a heartbeat at 6 weeks, u shud see the yolk sac and a tiny baby!! good luck xx

Thanks to everyone

i have read all your messages and i am going for my 6 week scan tomorrow as my last pregnancy was ectopic, i just really hope everything is ok, im so scared, but i have no pain as such just minor niggles can i ask has anyone had very slight bleeding with no clots as i did last week and thats what has worried me, it was only a tiny it each time not like a period at all as much much lighter, and im certain it not ectopic as was in severe pain by this point when that happened???????????

"thanks to everyone".....

I am going for my 6 week scan tomorrow as suffered an ectopic pregnancy 2 months ago in July and had a tube removed - it was really frightening and shocked now at how quick I fell pregnant again - feel very lucky but also feel sick in he stomach with nerves and anxiety that everything will be ok - will feel relieved after tomorrow to know that at least baby is (hopefully) in right place, and then just have another 6 week wait for my12 week scan - although do you think they will give another scan earlier if I ask as travelling when I will be about 10weeks pregnant and going on a 9 hour flight! Holiday was booked after suffering the ectopic - how things work hey!!! i know worrying doesn't help but how do you stop yourself from worrying.....
