Twins!

Hi my first pregnancy was twins and thye didn't detect both heartbeats until 12 weeks although they did detct two sacs at 8 weeks. I was told at 8 weeks that one of the twins didn't have a heartbeat and wasn't viable, but this turned out to be incorrect.

My second pregnancy started as a twin pregnancy but they were 99% sure at 9 weeks that baby no 2 wasn't a viable baby. This proved to be the case and at 12 weeks baby no 1 had grown and the second sac was diminishing - this was eventually absorbed by baby no 1 so I didn't have any symptons at all. Hope this helps.

if the two sacs were of a similar size and are at your next scan then i would be asking how come the sac without a hearbeat had grown also???? You might jsut find you end up with twins!

Similar situation

Hi,

At 6.5 weeks 2 sacs detected

At 9.5 weeks 2 babies detected. 1 Heart beat, Baby A measuring 8weeks and 6days, Baby B measuring 8weeks and 4days (no heart).

Baby B was lying awkwardly, back to the screen so cord couldn't be seen. Also the sac looked more squashed. Difficult to get a good angle. Dr said with the technology today he should get a heart beat on both.

Thermal scan showed blood going through Baby A cord but as I said we couldn't get to it with Baby B??

Doctor said it's not going to happen. However you have given me a little glimmer of hope that it is possible? I know I am clutching to straws.

Do you have more details about the first situation above. My next scan is 19th December.

Thanks
