"Drinking in early pregnancy"

I read a stat whereby the majority of pregnant women had consumed alcohol in early pregnancy (prior to knowing they were) and while no doctor would encourage drinking during pregnancy (and there are well understood risks and problems associated with continued drinking during fetal development) it is widely accepted that this is not a major risk factor in pregnancy.

Good news since many do have some alcohol while we are TTC.

Whole thread for the following message:

Hello,

Really worried as found out today I am pregnant and have been drinking like a fish over the festive and new year period.....now wondering whether I have done harm to the baby and really sad about it as I'm 41 and totally shocked but delighted to be expecting...

Has anyone got any experience of this....please do reply - thanks so much julie x

I am sure everything will be fine. I partied hard until about 6 weeks (I have an unplanned bump) but my little one is doing great.

Try not to worry I am sure there are hundreds of women in our position

Dont be worried, alot of folk do drink before they know they are expecting. my sis in law got gutted at her engagment party on the 7th of april and found out she was expecting on the 10th, her son born 23rd november was born fine, no problems with him and there's alot of other folk with the same story and same ending. so i wouldnt worry and dont be about it be , new year new baby enjoy the next nine months take care.

Congratulations.

My friend only found out she was pregnant when she was 18 weeks gone! By then she had already enjoyed living her usual lifestyle of heavy weekend drinking (including absenth), smoking and generally not taking care of herself.

As soon as she found out she stoped and James was born fit and healthy. Just make sure you take care of yourself now. How far along are you?
