1st period after miscarriage

Hi,
I've just come across this board and wished I'd found it last month... I miscarried naturally on the 15th August at 10 weeks although the baby had died at 7 weeks. It was my 1st pregnancy. I had been warned that my first period was likely to be much heavier than usual but the opposite has happenned and it amounted to nothing more than a little spotting and one clot over about 4 days. Has anyone else experienced this? I'd been wanting either to be pregnant again and therefore not have another period or to have a normal one so I knew everything was as it should be so now I'm quite confused.
Thanks,
Fi

1st period after miscarriage

Hi all,
in July this year, i went for my dating scan and was told that the foetus had died at aprox 8 weeks and i should of been 10 weeks. i eventually miscarried 3 weeks later and went for a scan that said i was all clear.
I had a period 7 weeks later and that was very light and brown and i too thought maybe it was another pregnancy(as you do).
on my next due date for period i had a baby sac come away, and very distraught i went to my doctors and he said it was not a new pregnancy but from my original m/c.
I am now having my next period after the baby sac coming away, and i am having one hell of a bleed!! For years my periods have been very light but this one is extremely heavy.....
I know this doesn't happen very often but it may still take a couple of months for your periods to return to normal....

Wishing everyone a BFP and lots of baby dust xx

Miscarriage and first period

I have had a miscarriage at seven weeks on the 12 of September naturally so no need for a D&C. Have just had my first period and like yours it was just like spotting and some clotting with white mucus. Lasting for about 4 days and then nothing. I am confused as well. My periods haven't been regular throughout my life so I am just having to wait and see what happens over the next few months. Would love to be pregant again but tests come back negative so would like a normal period. Can anyone give me any advice on how long it took them to get back to normal?

Thank you
Z

1st period after miscarriage!!

I know this probably won't help now because you posted such a long time ago but i had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago i was 11 weeks pregnant but the baby had died at just 6 weeks. I have just got my period and it is the weirdest one i've ever had. When it started i was just spotting with brown discharge which upset me and brought back the miscarriage all over again, now i am bleeding but it is the smallest amount which is confusing me as i was under the impression that it would be a 'bad one' as all the expert family members put it (none of them have ever experienced a miscarriage)!!! I'm nearly 40 so i don't think i will be trying for another baby as i'm too scared that this is going to happen to me again and again and my mental health can't take any more beatings. Anyway good luck to all of you out there that have experienced miscarriage and are trying again for another little one i'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for all of you luv Jen xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx

1st period experience

hi

i'm having my 1st period after mc 5 wk ago, at 4 weeks. i'm heavier than usual and lots of pain! we had hoped that i would get pregnant straight away again, but obviously not. however, i'm taking comfort in that i'm obviously not ready again and my body is normalising, ready to start again. anyone else have this back / tummy ache?

Reply yo 1st period after miscarriage

Hi Fi,

Firstly I want to say I am really sorry to hear that you lost your baby. I miscarried around the same time as you and am still waiting for my first period or like you wanting to find out I am pregnant again. Have you done any pregnancy tests?

I think everybody reacts differently, I have read some forums where people fall pregnant again immediately and don't have periods and other people who have said they have waited months. I had a previous miscarriage and had a period 4 weeks later and then conceived my daughter the following month so it can happen!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you - Good Luck Debs xx

Short period after miscariage

Hi Fi,

I know you had miscarried a whole year ago, but i too have had a short period after my miscarriage. My miscarriage ended just after 7 weeks. My first period was really heavy on the first day and then pretty light the next day and spotting for the next two days and then that was it. I usually have periods that will last for 7 days till there is no sign of it. I was wondering how your periods went after that, for the next year were they normal again? Did you ever get pregnant again? Did you ever need to go to the doctors about your miscarriage or period, since you first period. I am looking for answers, I am worried about my situation. I am hoping I am okay.
thanks,
Danne

Still dont have my period after miscarriage

I had my miscarriage at 8 weeks, natually didnt have D&C and wasnt very well looked after at the hospital or doctors, I was and still am devestated and still trying desperately for it to happen again, I am 29 and dreamed of having a Baby before my 30th birthday which is never going to happen now... anyway its been 14 weeks and my period still hadnt come, had anyone else been through this, my doctor keeps telling me not to try until it does arrive but I've not stopped trying since the miscarriage. I know i'm not pg though as I have done a test today 14 weeks to the date and nothing... I just wsnt my period to come so I know where my body's at. Also its playing havoc on my skin, my face is a mess and my doctor said its all down to hormones?

I know how you feel

Hi there

I just wanted to say how very sorry I am to hear your news, I had a miscarriage on New Years Eve at 8 weeks and just like you it was devastating. I haven't a clue when my cycle will arrive although the staff at Victoria Hospital were absolutely brilliant with us. They have told me when my body is ready then my cycle will begin again - although I had the D&C.

What I would like to ask you is have you had bloods taken at hospital to check your hormone levels are below 25? I know I may be teaching you to suck eggs here but after my procuedure my hormone levels were checked after 7 days and were 693 which is high so I went back 14 days after that as nurses said it needed to be below 25 for them to be happy and have me discharged as an out patient. It just worried me that your doctor has said its your hormones and that he hasn't done anything about it for you?

"join the club"

hi nikkie,
i just felt i had to reply to you, i had a miscarriage in july(7th) at 9wks but i did'nt have a d&c till 7th august. we are now at 1st october and i am still waiting for my first period. we haven't been using contraception as we were hoping i'd get pregnant straight away(no such bloody luck-took 3yrs to get pregnant only to lose it)
it has helped me to know i am not alone and there are others like me although that sounds selfish. i just want to say don't give up the dream! good luck and maybe one day i'll be celebrating some gooooood news with you.

Period after miscarriage

I was 9 wks pregnant and had a small bleed so went for an early scan. I had a blighted ovum and went for a medical management at the beginning of august. My first period just started a few days ago and I thought it would be light having read this thread but it seems pretty normal, it seemed to start off fairly light but has got heavier. I think its probably just an individual thing and everyones different.

Weird periods

Hi.
I had a D&C at the end of June, following a miscarraige at 13 weeks and my first period was weird- spotting for a few days, then fairly heavy but not painful.
I am now about 6 weeks pregnant again, so fingers crossed that even weird periods don't stop you conceiving again- it didn't me!

1st period after miscarriage

I am in the same predicament at the moment. I had a miscarriage after 8 weeks and was also hoping that I would become pregnant quite quickly but have started my period. It is almost nothing. I have never really had a very heavy period, but this is just not one way or the other. Even the colour is lighter. I am very confused, hence I googled my question and came across this web site.
Sorry I have not been more help, I have probable added to the mystery. But wishing you all the best for falling pregnant quickly again.

Waiting for period after 12wk miscarriage

Hi,

I just wanted to say I am really sorry to hear about everyone's sad losses. I know how you feel. Its devastating and painful. I started miscarrying my baby whilst I was on holiday in Spain on 20th August, I was 13 weeks and started with some very light spotting. I called the midwife in the UK and she advised me to pop along to the local hospital just to be on the safe side.

I had worried all the 12 previous weeks with every twinge and ache and had been obsessively checking for bleeding as had been told that my age would make the chances of miscarrying much higher. I had been overjoyed to discover I was pregnant and felt God had given me a very special chance as I am 39 and thought I would not be able to have anymore children. When I was on the way to the Hospital I was not overly worried as I had no pain and the bleeding was very light so I had convinced myself that as I had reached the 12 weeks marker all would be fine. At the hospital I was kind of excited that I would be having a sneaky peek preview of my baby for the first time on the screen as I had postponed my 12wk scan until I was returning to the UK in 3 days.

Nothing could of prepared me for what happened next. The hospital had NO English speaking staff and I was lead to a sonographers room alone whilst they waved their finger at my partner indicating that he had to wait outside. They started scanning me with the usual scanner but with the screen facing them. I was then waved over to a big chair with stirrups & told to put my feet in them and made to lay back. They then started to do an internal scan. I was frantically searching their faces in the dark for clues as to what they could see & listening out for words I might understand - trying in broken Spanish to find out if my baby was ok. No-one spoke to me or answered me. They switched the machine off and pointed to the waiting room. I sat there with my partner numb waiting for someone to come back to me. After half an hour an American Interpreter took me back in to the consulting room. She explained that they could not see a heartbeat and the baby had died. She advised I go back to my apartment and rest and the bed rest would hopefully delay the eventual loosing of my baby until I was back in the UK. I took her advise and took to my bed where I stayed and sobbed and sobbed. I went from feelings of numbness to feeling sadness disbelief and anger. I flew home 2 days later where I went to the hospital the day I got back. The UK hospital confirmed the baby had died and I performed a D&C the following day.

I am now anxiously waiting for my first period. It's now been over 5 weeks and I really want to know my body is back to normal so that we can start trying again to conceive. I have done 3 PG tests in a desperate hope that I had already fallen pregnant but each one was negative. I've even bought a clear view fertility monitor to help us with detecting the best days to speed things along but cant start using it until I have my period! I am scared time is running out for me - I know it's God's plan and if I am meant to have another child it will happen but right now it's all I can think about. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences, it's nice to know feel your not alone. Big hugs and much love xxxxx

I had a miscarriage in the past and my period returned to normal immediately and I was pregnant 8 weeks later with my daughter. I was only 6 weeks pregnant when I suffered the first miscarriage so maybe that didn't have such an effect on my body.

I had D&C's with both of them as I have aplastic anemia and the consultants wanted to speed things along to avoid loosing too much blood.

Period after miscarriage

you are not the only one. i found out i was pregnant around xmas and a couple of months gone. i wasn't ready to have a baby and went to the hospital. they said i could have an abortion by them or for it to happen naturally because the baby had already died inside me so i decided to let it happen naturally. i had a miscaaiage at the end of January and its now july. i have not had a proper period, only each month a day or two bleeding but not constant. i am quite worried that my body is messed up and that next time i do come on my period it will be very heavy and long. any help anyone?

Hi fi,

I've just had my 2nd period after my last m/c and am sorry to say things still aren't back to normal. My first period was much like your own, lighter and shorter than normal and this last one has been really odd. Fairly normal for 4 days then completely stopped, then slight spotting over next few days then started bleeding again yesterday. It's slowed down again now but started off quite heavy but sort of watery and with clots!! Sorry for tmi but dunno how else to describe. I had natural m/c at 7 weeks and have had 2 others in the last year, one at 3 weeks and one at 9 weeks. Periods got back to normal fairly quick with both of them but this one seems to have had more impact on my body. Dunno how medically accurate this is but I reckon it just confuses our bodies a bit when we m/c and don't think we always build up much of a womb lining in the first month after and that's why the first period seems light. Think mine's gone a bit the other way this time and built up a bit extra, hence the extra bleeding. Could be completely wrong but got docs appt 2moro so will check it out with her and let you know what she says, may well shed some light for us both. As always tho, if you're worried go and see your own doc, that's what we pay taxes for!

Lotsa love, Clare xxx

Dear clare

not sure if your still checking this link -but i had a miscarriage 9wks ago, and was about 8/9wks gone. started my first period since m/c today. and am very distressed. as it is very clotty. size of satsuma's and ongoing. no let up at all. very heavy
of course this is extremely distressing. i feel like i am reliving it all over again. the symbolism is huge.
so would be very interested to know what the doctor said to you with regards to your bleeding.
i never had a scan or any check after the m/c and wonder if it is still coming away?!
any help would be grand

Hi

hi hun, i had a mc on the 21st july and i was 6 weeks gone. at the time of my next period i only bled for 2 days. which is very unusual for me as i usually bleed very heavy for 6-7 days!!!

however, i am now 6 weeks pregnant!

sometimes a mc can mess your cycle up a bit

i wish you all the best!

kate xxx

Thanks...

Thanks both of you, it's good to hear I'm not alone... I think I'm going to wait and see how things go over the next month and hopefully my body will have a bit more time to settle and get back into routine.

Kate - congratulations and I hope everything goes smoothly for you this time!

luv 'n' hugs
